Dear in Christ,
We apologize for the month of downtime. It is a long story of a saga of moving twice to two different service providers (one actually lied to us about features!) and finding corrupted forum issues. Thanks to user Strelets, who spent many many hours this past week fixing the database, it is now in tip top, cleaned-up shape. Unfortunately, the foreign language characters were a casualty. Strelets, Robert, and I will discuss some possibilities but in the long run, it may be that we have to manually edit the posts (I have some backups from long ago that can alleviate some of this possibly).
For the time being, however, if in your username or signature you have messed up foreign language characters, please fix it manually yourself as soon as possible. If you do not have the permission level to do this, please contact me via PM with what you want it to be and I will fix it for you.
We all owe Strelets a big THANK YOU!!!
Stay tuned for more info.
Anastasios

Dear in Christ,
It appears that it is possible (I am not sure how, but possible, as I have verified it having happened in one place) that some who checked "keep email private" will now have an exposed email address. Please go in to your profile and verify that your email is still checked as "hide email address." You will NOT be able to verify this by clicking on the memberlist and seeing if an email address appears next to your name--because, by default, it ALWAYS appears next to your name when you are logged in as yourself. So you must verify in your profile. If you have any doubts or do not understand exactly what I mean, and are concerned that your email is showing, PM me and I will verify for you. Thank you.
Anastasios
UPDATE: I have reason to believe that there was something else wrong with the one account that I mentioned above. In every other case--literally five or six different people--the email address WAS hidden, but since the person was logged in as themself, they saw their email and thought it was exposed. I have a testuser account we use and which I can show anyone with doubts, that when they log in as testuser, they will NOT be able to see the email of their email of their real account.

Can we make Strelets a saint? Honestly, I was getting so bored without the forum, I actually had to start reading a book!

I am soooo glad to have my home-away-from-home back! Truly, all of us owe Strelets a big thank you!
I missed all you folks!
Has anything big happened in anyone's life in the past month or so? It's kind of like Rip Van Winkle where we have all slept, and woke up a month later...

Wooohooo!!! I am so happy that OC.net has returned...many thanks to Strelets help! I have practically no Orthodox friends, so this site is a real blessing for me. I hope all of you are in good health and I look forward to hearing from everyone. God bless, Juliana

I too want to thank Strelets for his help, as well as our administrators for their on-going oversight of this forum. I've always enjoyed being here, but it wasn't until this recent difficulty -- where OC.net's absence made me seek other Orthodox interaction online -- that I began to fully appreciate how vastly superior this site is when compared to anything else currently available in English.
Many thanks and God bless.

Hey moderators.....here's a thought..... I don't know if this is true or not, but it looks like quite a few of our beloved posters don't know that we're back yet.....is there anyway you guys could send out a mass email inviting everyone back? Just a thought James Bob
