A hymn in Malayalam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVrI8qbdRPoThis is the description that goes with it: This is the Malayalam translation of the Syriac hymn by Mor Jacob of Serugh, that is sung during the verpers on the feast of the Nativity of our Lord (Christmas). ENGLISH TRANSLATION ----------------------------------- Sing Halleluiah! as the shepherds sang in Bethlehem.
Come and see, the one who dwells in the chariots of heaven, being carried in the hands of the virgin.
The one who is glorified by Gabriel and the angels, is being carried in the hand of Joseph.
Glory to Thee: whose praise fills the heavens and who brought peace and joy to earth by his incarnation.
Glory to the one, who brought gratification in all directions by his incarnation, and to the Father who send him, and to the Holy Spirit.
Sing Halleluiah! as the shepherds sang in Bethlehem.

Shlomo !!! Thank you Salpy. Below given is the hymn sung in the Syrian orthodox Church prior to the commencement of the public celeberation of the divine Liturgy. The hymn was composed by Late Mor Gregorios Geevarghese ( Perumbilly ) who was a master of Beth Gazo - the Syriac liturgical music. This is one of the hymns I love. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAEoAqhveGg

Below is the first stanza of the Kukiliyon ( Prayers of incense ) being sung in the eight different tunes / melodies as stipulated in the Syriac liturgical music. Syrians use a system of eight melodies called the "oktoechos" in singing hymns, based on combinations of four elements namely heat, cold, humidity, and drought. They observed that the first and fifth develop a sensation of heat and humidity. The second and sixth increase cold and humidity, the third and seventh heat and drought, and the fourth and eighth cold and drought. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8M26KZtg38&translated=1

Paslti boy and anyone else interested, The best of Coptic chant and music is scarce on the internet. I have been to just about every known site and 75% of what I have found is quite low quality, in terms of recording and voice. Most of the files on the net better serve the interests of one who seeks to learn Coptic chant/music, rather than one who seeks to enjoy Coptic chant/music in my opinion. If you want the gems, just ask me; I will gladly direct you to the best quality recordings on the net, and upload those you will never find on the net. Here is one of my favourites that I have uploaded from a CD I own; it's the Goodfriday hymn Omonogenis chanted in Arabic: http://www11.rapidupload.com/d.php?file=dl&filepath=26921The link does not provide a hymn.

I really don't know what language the mezmur is in.
The word klezmer comes from the Hebrew words kle, vessel or instrument, and zemer which means song. since the ethiopian language is semitic it is related to mezmur (amharic/geez)

You may want to contact the owner of the site: http://erkohet.com/index.php/contactLet him know that you are willing to work with him on getting resources from your tradition. I would think he would be happy to have the help.

actually, it would be nice if there was an OO hymns website that can compile all the hymns of every OO Church, comparable to the coptichymns.net website.

Most of the CD's that you can purchase in India, creates a fusion of Orthodox Chanting and pop music. There are very few CD's brought out with Orthodox Chanting in its pure form with no fusion with pop music. If you have Orthodox Chanting CD's in its pure form, then its worth sharing.
