Question: What do you think of the hotline?
It's a great idea to help curb barbaric behavior at football games
Eh, right idea, bad application
Wait, you want to curb "rude fans" at a football game?  Is UnAmerican Outrage!
They should make a 381-IDIOT for whomever came up with that
No more "Jerk" hotlines, so says the men of the square table.  Man Law!

The story?  http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2549969

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Most of the people who called the Cincinnati Bengals' new hot line for reporting unruly fans just wanted to see if it worked -- or hung up.

About 100 calls had come in to the hot line, 381-JERK, by the end of halftime at the Bengals' preseason game Sunday against the Washington Redskins. The team set up the hot line to allow fans to report excessive foul language, fights and other bad behavior in the stands.

Hamilton County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to handle rowdy fans at least once because of a call to the hot line, said Bob Bedinghaus, the team's director of development for Paul Brown Stadium.

One security guard manned the hot line's sole telephone during the game. The line doesn't have call waiting or voicemail, so some fans might have gotten a busy signal.

Bedinghaus said that's likely to cause complaints, "but we're not going to put 25 people down there to answer phone calls." If the line is busy, fans can ask a security guard or police officer for help.

A call to the hot line alerts security to check out the complaint on camera, then in person if action is warranted. According to Bedinghaus, the team has 38 cameras in the stadium.

"It was a great tool to call attention to something we're trying to address: unruly fans," he said.

Bedinghaus said the team probably will review the hot line's effectiveness after the second home game of the regular season, on Oct. 1 against the New England Patriots.

"If 90 percent of the calls we're getting are prank calls," he said, "we need to re-evaluate this."

Fr. Chris, I implore you - tell us what is in the drinking water in Cincy!ÂÂ  Really!

Well, my first impressions are that what is in the drinking water in Cincinnati is precisely things that are not in Cleveland's water apparently...

Southern Ohio, which is truly the last part of Eden which we humans are allowed to tread upon since it is so beautiful that even the sword-armed angel guarding Eden desires to share the beauty of Southern Ohio with all people, is a place of peace and tranquility.

People are polite and pleasant there. Rude behavior is frowned upon and in fact is uncommon.

Then, there are other parts of Ohio--I won't be vulgar or explicit and name the city, Cleveland, but I think you may know the place quite well.... Wink

Well, this 'other' place, opposite of the heavenly regions which are like Cincinnati, has rude behavior as the norm. In fact, the die-hard football fans of this city perform an elaborate masquerade where they dress as dogs and label their den as the 'Dogpound'. The problem with this is that the local dogs are insulted at their crass behavior....

(In case no one knows, the original poster and I have this rivalry that we had in seminary. Each one of us thinks their corner of Ohio is the best one, but in case anyone doubt this, nothing will make us put away the teasing quicker than finding a Michigan person skulking about).

I'm sorry...gotta go to a hospital in a hurry; otherwise I would have developed this idea more. Forgive me!

It's a good thing that the angel who wishes to share "eden" of cincinnati with the world is also laying off and buying out thousands...

Who let Michigan people in, anyway?

From the Bungles website:

Q: Can I propose to my boyfriend/girlfriend on the video scoreboard?

A. Due to the overwhelming number of requests that we receive, it simply is not possible to fulfill requests for personal messages such as marriage proposals, birthday wishes, anniversaries, Welcome Home greetings, etc., on the Paul Brown Stadium video scoreboard.

Overwhelming number of requests?  Are you kidding me?

Oh, yes... Youngstown, a city irresistable to many cross-sections of the population, like mobsters, bridge-painters, and Kalymnians.

If only they had a button like "report to moderator" or something like it.

They have cameras intalled in a lot of lights here in Chicago and even in the suburbs.

They say they are looking for red light violators but they have some that are just "eye in the sky" ones too.

I took my little one to the public pool recently and the signs mentioned no cell phones for privacy reasons---
I found that funny when there were cameras inside the changing/shower room.

Youngstown, with YSU (go Penguins?), some nice parks, abandoned steel mills, and a constant mob presence is still more appealing that the concrete city of Cincy... who elects Jerry Springer, anyway?

Well, of course living in Ohio you've got limited exposure to Superbowl Sunday... But the Browns did win an handful of Championships (in the pre-Superbowl era)!

That surprises me because when I went to a Steelers/Bengals game in Cincy I was impressed how nice the Cincy fans were.  They of course gave us the business during the game, especially when we were behind during the first half. (Down something like 35 to 13 at half we came back to win 49-35).  But no foul language or rude behavior.

Only a select few of us know the truth - that within the city of Cincy they have mind-altering waves that make the rudest and most vile of people seem to be quite pleasant.  That's why I travel there with my aluminum foil helmet - and I can see the truth.

Of course, a redeeming quality seems to be their interest in the weather.  Every time I go there with my foil helmet and a thunderstorm comes, they always are wanting me to share in the joy by having me observe the lightning from the high points in the city...

Behold the power of the 'Burgh!

"Resistance is futile! You will adapt to serve the Burgh!"

The darkness spreads as more people fall sway to this siren call of AsterLocutus of the Burgh!

But, from the distance, comes the mighty roar of the Bengal Tiger, now fully rested from a long (too long indeed!) slumber. Soon the roar of freedom that is opposed to the metallic dehumanizing steel of the Burgh shall be heard even in the dark streets of Pittsdor..

Bengals? Steelers? Whats wrong with this thread? The Steelers got lucky and the Bengals have an injured quarterback. Cincinnati is full of many concrete creations with oxidized metal protruding. All thats left of Pittsburgh are a bunch of coal mines and steel mills that are becoming rusty. Youngstown is... Wait... is that even on a map? Theres no such place as Youngstown  Cheesy Its one of those made up places, like Candyland... or Quo'nos. What are the people called? Youngstownians? Or maybe Youngins which seems to fit a certain poster very well  Grin Cheesy
