Romanian Priests Suspended For Blessing Brothels
Orthodox Church Forbids Blessing Sites Deemed Unholy
Posted: 4:05 p.m. EDT April 17, 2003

BUCHAREST, Romania -- Romania's Orthodox Church suspended 10 Bucharest priests who were filmed blessing brothels, porn shops and a weapons store in exchange for money and goods.

It is traditional for Orthodox priests to bless homes, offices, cars and gardens to ward off the devil. But priests are not allowed to bless places deemed unholy, such as brothels and abortion clinics.

If true this is very sad indeed.

That article will probably show up on the Fundamentalist web sites as grist for the anti-Orthodox mill.

Indeed.  But "kudos" to the hierarchs who suspended these 10 money-hungry priests.  Let's not forget that the house was cleaned and that they *were* suspended.  Fundies have skeletons in their closets too, I'm sure.
