[23:13] MatteeRamone: hey
[23:13] MatteeRamone: i have proof that god exists
[23:17] nektarios014: ok
[23:18] MatteeRamone: ok
[23:18] MatteeRamone: i am in this astronomy class at school
[23:18] MatteeRamone: it was required for us to go to a planetarium show
[23:19] MatteeRamone: otherwise, we lost 70 points
[23:19] MatteeRamone: which pretty much means that you'd fail for missing it
[23:19] MatteeRamone: well, i missed it
[23:19] MatteeRamone: are you with me?
[23:19] nektarios014: yeah
[23:19] MatteeRamone: when i realized that i missed it a few minutes ago, i freaked out
[23:19] MatteeRamone: all i could do was scream out for god's help
[23:20] MatteeRamone: well, guess what i found out?
[23:21] MatteeRamone: this thursday is the last day that we're allowed to drop a class without it showing on our transcripts
[23:21] MatteeRamone: i'm in the clear
[23:21] nektarios014: that's your proof?
[23:21] MatteeRamone: yes
[23:21] MatteeRamone: i cried for god's help
[23:21] MatteeRamone: and he granted it
[23:21] nektarios014: that's really lame
[23:21] MatteeRamone: no, not at all
[23:22] MatteeRamone: god is revealed in the simple things
[23:22] MatteeRamone: that's even what the bible teaches
[23:22] MatteeRamone: am i right?
[23:23] nektarios014: that's not a proof
[23:24] MatteeRamone: It's proof enough for me

Proof enough, indeed.

One love.

Peace.

As painful as it is to admit it, I'm with nektarios on this one, that is pretty lame proof. If that's your ida of a proof, don't take any math classes, you don't have a chance at a passing grade.

Now because the triangle has 2 angles with measurements of 45 degrees each, we are forced to conclude that this is indeed a right triangle with measures 45-45-90. Thank you.

... and because the triangle as 2 angles with measurements of 45 degrees each, we are also forced to conclude that the sides of the triangle opposite to these angles are equal to one another in length.  Now, of course, the presence of 2 equal angles in this triangle does not necessarily mean that the opposite sides of this triangle will be congruent with the opposite sides of another triangle with 2 angles equal to each other and/or equal to the angles of the first triangle...

-Nick

I don't buy it, the Equator, Prime Meridian and 90 degree west longitude lines all form to make a triangle, yet the angles are 90+90+90=270 degrees...why can't the triangle of which you speak have 270 degrees? (actually, using the axiomatic system of spherical geometry, it couldn't, the most degrees the triangle with 2 45 degree angles could have is 269.999999999... degrees, but that's another issue). Or perhaps the triangle could be a 45-45-45 triangle? Your theorme only works in Euclidian Geometry, and the theorem should be qualified accordingly Wink

Let's stay on topic.ÂÂ  No thread hijacking.

Whenever I do or discuss geometry I feel like an extremly luck man, lucky to not only live after Euclid, but also to live after such great mathematicians as Gauss, Bolyai, and Lobatchevsky. Grin

Nothing private was shared. Nektarios' AIM screenname is on his OC.net profile.

But anyways, I've got to go drop the class before the deadline passes.

Not to beat a dead horse, but:

Just because his screen name is public doesn't mean his conversation with you is.  IM-ing someone is almost like a phone call: the person has a reasonable expectation that the conversation is private unless you tell them otherwise (i.e. there's someone else in the room, speakerphone, chat windows, etc.).

I think it is abudantly clear that no malice was meant (so I not offended in the least by this), but I do think it is prudent not to post private conversations on a public message board.  Anyway I think it is sort of sad if one's "proof" for God's existence is so simple and ultimately self serving.  What happens the next time you get a bad grade on a test or things don't go your way?

Then I'd have to bite the bullet, and pay for college without financial aid. Even then, I'd hope that God would lead me through that situation.

It seems to me that your "revelation" of the existance of God is nothing more than a case of erroneous information. You may have mistaken the date and that could lead to your "proof". Ex:

Oooo my God, I didn't study for my accounting exam! I'm gonna fail!"

*in class: Okay, so the accounting exam is next week, remember to write it down*

So God does exist regardless of the fact that I mistook today for being the same day next week.... It really doesn't work.

I'm taking photo class now instead of astronomy and it's really cool. We only use black and white film, and no auto focus is allowed. I can hardly wait to develop and process my own pictures.
