What format do you use to rip music?
« on: June 20, 2006, 08:29:02 PM »
Today, I discovered that MP3's ripped at 320kbps bear almost no difference in sound quality to the much more diskspace-consuming Windows Media Lossless format which I've been using.
Do you notice a substantial difference between a high-bitrate MP3 and CD-quality sound?

Peace.

You may not notice a difference per se, but there is definitely one there.  Try playing it on a real high-end stereo system.  You will likely hear artifacts and/or other distortions.  mp3 is a lossy format and as a result you are going to be losing some sound quality.  Ogg and mp3pro are two of my favorite to use, but again it all depends on what sounds good to your ear.

Do you notice any artifacts or distortions with lossless audio? I use a Sony CD Walkman with high-end headphones and haven't noticed too much of a difference with 320kbps MP3's.

Nothing compares to CD-quality sound, I'm too much of an audiophile to give into MP3's.

Peace.

I'm considering to purchase a 1gig iRiver mp3 player:

Would that be a good decision?

Peace.
