Perhaps you need more Bruce Springsteen in your life...
« on: May 27, 2006, 08:22:28 PM »

Born In The U.S.A. Lyrics
by Bruce Springsteen

Born down in a dead man's town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
'Til you spend half your life just covering up

[chorus:]
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

I got in a little hometown jam
And so they put a rifle in my hands
Sent me off to Vietnam
To go and kill the yellow man

[chorus]

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me..."
I go down to see the V.A. man
He said, "Son don't you understand?"

[chorus]

I had a buddy at Khe Sahn
Fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone
He had a little girl in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years down the road
Nowhere to run, ain't got nowhere to go

I'm a long gone daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
I'm a cool rocking daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

http://users.ev1.net/~jmfields/media/Bruce%20Springstein%20-%20Born%20in%20the%20USA.mp3

This is not a jingoistic song, it's a protest song more than anything else.

Peace.

You know, that takes me back!
I had a flashback to an embryology lecture at the Unviversity of New South Wales in 1986. Our lecturer, Prof. Murray, was explaining how the the embryonic plate folds by pulling the back of his sweater over his head, when all of a sudden, a student who was listening to his walkman with his eyes closed rather than the lecture, got carried away and started singing the chorus to "Born in the USA" very loudly! Interestingly, the student graduated with honors!
Have a guess who the student was.....

*Sigh* - ask the author if it is himself that he is referring to...
"O Cross of Christ, all-holy, thrice-blessed, and life-giving, instrument of the mystical rites of Zion, the holy Altar for the service of our Great Archpriest, the blessing - the weapon - the strength of priests, our pride, our consolation, the light in our hearts, our mind, and our steps"

Ya know. I never saw anything to Springsteen. His music is mediocre at best. And his voice is horrible.

My opinion (surprise!) on why he and so many other terrible singers are popular is that most people sing just as poorly and it makes them feel good to sing "just as good" as a rock star.

Cleveland finally has explained to him why Springsteen was coming out of my room at HCHC so often, instead of our chant instructor's recordings...

I do remember what you used to say about those who were good at chanting...
Just remember, I'm "other"...

- and P.S. Chris nailed his chant final despite his being uneasy about it.  I, OTOH, had to stop mid-hymn I messed up so badly.

I've dug Bruce Springsteen since age five, probably. Today, I purchased Dr. Dre's the Chronic and A Tribe Called Quest Anthology. My musical tastes are diverse, I enjoy almost anything but emo.
There's a difference, my friend, between good and bad hip-hop.

I actually agree with that; however I've never been one to get into hip-hop as a genre of choice.  I can appreciate the manipulation of words and rhymes and all of that, but I'm too much a fan of melody.  The way I look at it is I can get the lyrical "wow!" factor AND the melody, with, say, every other genre.

Yep, here here man! I put him almost in the same class as Michael Bolton ( hehe, any of you seen the movie Office Space? We all know how much Michael Bolton sucks..) If you want to talk about a real unique talented band, then I would suggest checking out Depeche Mode.

Locke had a full jazz band on his first album and it turned out to be very melodic. Other rappers have done the same.

How could you possibly misspell "poor" so that it came out as "diverse"?ÂÂ  :D

re: Office Space - That is a funny movie. The funniest movei I have seen lately is "Not Another Teen Movie". That is just rolling on the floor funny!

How could anyone consider Led Zeppelin a poor choice of music?

Has anyone here heard the new Bruce Springsteen album "We Shall Overcome - the Seeger Sessions"? It's all folk music...I just put it on hold at my library. I hope it's good.

Office Space is one funny movie...gotta love 3 computer programmers taking a baseball bat to a copy machine (or was it a printer?) to the sounds of gangsta rap music.

D

Yea... ;D That's one movie I can say that doesn't have one bad scene in it. I think I saw the 'Lumbergs f---- her' guy (the funny guy with the blond hair that was haunting Peter in that dream sequence) on like a TGI Fridays commercial recently. My buddies started busting up when that commercial came on because we all remembered that hilarious scene from Office Space. Gotta love that movie.
