The death toll is now over 5,000 and still climbing. 50, 000 people have so far been displaced. The Indonesian Government has appealed for aid worldwide.

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia has a Mission in Java and is collecting emergency aid for distribution. For those in the US who may wish to help, IOCC (International Orthodox Christian Charities) has started an emergency appeal: http://www.iocc.org/news/5-27-06.shtml .
