WARREN G LYRICS

"My Momma (Ola Mae)"

Yo I wanna take this time out to dedicate this song
to one of the most beautiful ladies in the world
could never imagine
Yeah, Ole Mae, that's my momma, y'know
To one of the most beautifulest ladies in the world
I love ya momma, keep it strong for ya

My momma, used to tell me quit smoking weed
My momma, gave me everything I need
My momma, said keep faith in God
My momma, momma, momma, momma, momma

From the beginning, soon as my feet touched the earth
For what it's worth, she loved the boy from birth
Kept me fed, combed my head
and tapped that tail when I didn't do what she said
Through the years comin up momma always provided
And when the times got rough momma always tried to hide it
Divide it among us, but pardon the youngsters
Told us never to lie, smoke dope, and cuss
She stood tall and proud like a supermodel on a catwalk
And momma didn't take no back talk
She's the main reason why I roll today
That's why I dedicate this to Ole Mae
That's my momma

My momma, used to tell me quit smoking weed
My momma, gave me everything I need
My momma, said keep faith in God
My momma, momma, momma, momma, momma

As a young teenager I started to clown
My momma did all she could to try to slow me down
Tired of her son be brought by the cops
Sent to go stay with my pops
He taught me to be my own man, and when I disrespected
he put me out on the streets to find my own land
Now I'm servin on the urban street corner
Smokin bud, sippin Coronas in Long Beach, California
But I promised my momma I would make it to the top
And use this rap to put her in the drop
She the main reason why I roll today
That's why I dedicate this here to my Ole Mae

My momma, used to tell me quit smoking weed
My momma, gave me everything I need
My momma, said keep faith in God
My momma, momma, momma, momma, momma

As I grew up, blew up in the G-Funk Era
I see my momma everytime I take a look in the mirror
I'm thankful she gotta chance to see me shine
My momma's in my heart and my soul and mind
Controllin mine, so I can stand strong
For ya grandkids to let em know that ya spirit lives on
I really miss you, but I know ya looking over
Lead me on the right track, the angel's on my shoulder

My momma, used to tell me quit smoking weed
My momma, gave me everything I need
My momma, said keep faith in God
My momma, momma, momma, momma, momma

So I want y'all to treasure ya mom
Ya know, so if y'all got a bad relationship
or y'all on bad terms, patch it up
Ain't nothing wrong with that
Thats a precious jew-el
Remember that, we all gotta go through it
So stay strong, down dis, dis road, ya know
But I cant forget about all the poeple
Out there that I love, and got my back
So I'm gonna go ahead and im gonna shoot a shout out
My daddy, my sistas, my brothers, my girl, my kids
my cousins, my aunties, my uncles, my grandmomma
my granddaddy, all my homeboys, all my homegirls
and everybody out there that got love, knowwhatI'msaying?
We gotta keep it like that, we gotta keep it groovin

Give your mother a kiss a kiss, give her a call. After all, she gave birth to you all.

One love.

Peace.

What an eloquent tribute to motherhood.

His lyrical ability is one of the reasons why I love Warren G, he's more than just a thug rapper.

Peace.

Let me rephrase that:

Don't be a hater, hip-hop is here to stay. This is poetry, regardless of who wrote it.

What about Tupac with "Dear Mama", and "Keep Ya Head Up". Matthew seems to me your still caught up in hip hop.

I have Tupac's greatest hits but I don't listen to it much. He was too much of a showoff for me, always starting a fight with someone. Warren G, on the other hand, is just chill. Right now, I'm downloading the Grey Album. In case you haven't heard of it, check it out as soon as possible.

With songs such as "Regulate" and "Smoking me Out", probably two of his best hits, its hard convincing anyone he is more then just a "thug rapper".

Warren G's songs are funky and laid back, he's not out to start a fight but cut a listenable, danceable album. You've got to at least appreciate his skills as a producer.

Peace.

Today, I gave my mother the DVD of Scarlet and the Black, a book by Mother Angelica and I cooked her a chicken dinner... I hope this makes up for having forgotten her birthday.

Peace.

Montalban, if you can't tell the difference between 50 Cent and Del the Funkee Homosapian, you haven't even begun listening to good hip-hop.

To denounce an entire genre of music, especially one as lyrically and sonically diverse as hip-hop, shows true ignorance.

Again, hip-hop is such a diverse genre that you can't make such a blanket statement with your limited exposure and knowledge.

It's okay. It's not exceptional, but at the same time, at least is has some meaning to it.

However, it would probably strike a cord more so with me, if I had spent the last few years of my life thuggin'. Tongue

Montalban, if you can't tell the difference between 50 Cent and Del the Funkee Homosapian, you haven't even begun listening to good hip-hop.

With all genres, I find exceptions that break the rule, i.e. some songs I like. My era, however is of Grandmaster Flash's "The Message", The Sugarhill Gang "Rapper's Delight". Other artists of my era are De la soul, The Beastie Boys, Run DMC, LL Cool J, et al. Some of these artists I own songs/albums from.* (I've also got Blondie doing "Rapture").

More recent ones such as Coolio "Gangta's Paradise", & "Fantastic Voyage", Lauryn Hill "Doo Wop" I don't mind. So I am not unfamiliar with Rap per se but in general it involves a lot of simple minded folk dissing women, and others. So being familiar with, and even liking some, I feel quite comfortable in stating as a whole the genre is rubbish. Even songs that I like by Eminem such as "Stan" and "Lose Yourself" (I have "Stan"), don't make me a fan of his. Eminem's earlier songs such as "My Name Is" were to my ears dull. "Kill You" "Shake That" (a very recent song) and "Kim" are simply appalling. So as an artist, on a whole, even though I've some of his songs, I find Eminem terrible.

*I also have "Built From Scratch" by The X-Ecutioners, several Linkin Park singles (they use a mix of rap and metal to be labelled 'nu metal').

I think one can, if one doesn't like any that they've heard, say that they don't like it.

I am (see post above) more familiar with Rap than you might think. And I don't, in general like it.

Conversely, have any rap artists sampled him? I recall in the days of disco a nice tune called "A Fifth of Beethoven" (which I think was on the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack).
