It's dancehall reggae, which is like a cross between reggae and rapping. He's very good at beatboxing.
Peace.

I think he's GREAT!! Then again I like Reggae. If you go to JDubrecords.org and scroll down you'll see two of his videos. I'd like to book him for a fundraiser. What a concept . . . an Orthodox Jew raising money for an Orthodocx Christian Church. I'm sure that alone would get the media's attention.

I love how positive and faith-centered his music is, it's more "Christian" than most "Christian rock."
Peace.

Well, most Reggae I have heard is that way. I guess that's why I'm partial to it. It almost always has a positive message in the lyrics.

Yes, except for when that message involves drug use.

Well, they say it's part of their religious beliefs. I remember when I was working as a truck driver in Manhattan, some of the Rastas I knew were very good, soft spoken and respectful people. Then later on when I was shooting breaking news for the newspapers and the incident involved Rastas, there were almost always heavy duty guns and machetes involved.

I learned of Matisyahu from Image magazine It is a magazine of faith and art google it
they've got the evangelical, mainline, catholic and jewish connections - they could use some Orthodox input

I am 54 but I enjoy listening to the music/rap of Matisyahu ---I first encountered him on a video but have friends who heard him live at Stubbs in Austin. His message is very up lifting.

At best , his music should be qualified as "reggae influenced". This is not reggae or dancehall . There are no Jamaicans listening to this crap ...only hippies.

At least his music is about devotion to God and His law rather than smoking doobies.
Peace.

I'd recommend Live at Stubb's over his studio albums. I checked it out at the library and immediately burned a copy.
Peace.
