PATHANAMTHITTA: The year-long platinum jubilee celebrations of the famous Manjanikkara Perunal will be inaugurated by the Patriarchal delegate and Abbot of the Kurkuma Diara in Turkey, Mor Peelexinos Saleeba Metropolitan, on Sunday afternoon.
Reception
The pilgrims groups coming from different parts of the State to the tomb of St. Elias-III at Manjanikkara Diara near here will be accorded a rousing reception at Omalloor Cross on Sunday afternoon.
Kuriakose Mar Eulios Metropolitan will be the chief celebrant at the holy Eucharist at the Manjanikkara Diara Church at 8 a.m.
Public meeting
A public meeting, to mark the valedictory function of the annual pilgrimage week, will be held on the Diara premises, later at 6 p.m. The Patriarchal delegate will be chief guest at the meeting. The meeting will be presided over by Catholicos Baselius Thomas-I.
The Platinum Jubilee celebrations will be inaugurated on the occasion. Health and Water Resources Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Adoor Prakash, Francis George, MP; and K.K. Nair, MLA, will also address the meeting.
Fete ends on Monday
The Manjanikkara Perunal will come to a close with the Holy Rasa at 9 a.m. on Monday. The Patriarchal delegate will be the chief celebrant at the holy Eucharist and prayers before the tombs of St. Elias-III and Benyamin Mar Osthatheos.
