Gosh, how do you find these local hermits?

Gosh, how do you find these local hermits?

In those days, googling "Orthodoxy in Mississippi."

No idea how a monk somehow connected to Palestinian Orthodoxy ended up outside Ellisville, but he did for a few decades. Never saw the place, but apparently after he had to leave the hermitage was vandalized. Had a Website railing about ecumenism. He apparently got rejected by ROAC when seeking a transfer at one point, ended up affiliated with HTM.
Blessed Nazarius practiced the ascetic life. His clothes were tattered. He wore his shoes without removing them for six years.

THE OPINIONS HERE MAY NOT REFLECT THE ACTUAL OR PERCEIVED ORTHODOX CHURCH

Take a breath, read Ecclesiastes 1:9.

Unfortunately, such (or similar) stories happen to both sexes, and also to the cradles.
Folks are easily duped into noted clairvoyants. They tell you what you want to hear or impart some wisdom that makes you think its relevant to your problems. Especially since she was heavily steeped into that occultic mystical mumbo-jumbo its way too easy to believe it

I don't deny there are some seasoned ascetics that could have clairvoyance but I'm too much the cynic to think its about as good as reading my daily horoscope. Maybe seeing a wizard in Romania could change my mind

In college we had a Greek language lecturer . Twice divorced guy , with a certain charisma for sure. Back then even though he sounded off at times , given the intellectual environment we were on, it was hard for me to pin the whole thing down . Before I finished college he retreated to a monastery on a mountain too somewhere and after a while became an idiorhytmic monk there. Lady tine i saw him he Told me the Mossad and "they" ( code pronouns for the Jews) is sending spies there.

The homepage for the Online Etymology Dictionary has a new "Trending Words" widgit.

Trends at the time of this post- "human" "com-" "Nazi" "mankind" and "niggard."

Not sure what that says about society.

I wonder what St. Lawrence of Rome would think if you went back in time and told him that one day, there would be a giant ice sheet indirectly named after him.

"At the moment of death the spirit departs from the body and moves through the atmosphere. But the Scripture teaches us that the devil lurks there. He is ‘the prince of the power of the air’ (Eph. 2:2). If the eyes of our understanding were opened, one would probably see the air filled with demons, the enemies of Christ. If satan could hinder the angel of Daniel for three weeks on his mission to earth, we can imagine the opposition a Christian may encounter at death…. The moment of death is satan’s final opportunity to attack the true believer; but God has sent His angels to guard us at that time.”

I guess the most important thing I'd hope for would be in learning to properly deal with scandals like this: don't shoot the messenger or dismiss the allegations because you love the accused, but also hold off on tar and feathering someone while things are verified. (I haven't seen much restraint from either direction on Twitter... but then it's twitter, so)

To add a bit more... some of the allegations involve universities/institutions and people who spoke on the record, and so should be easily verifiable. At this point people keep saying there are a dozen + independent sources, but the problem is that they're funneled through the Buzzfeed report. Those need verified by other places, and there have been further allegations on social media that could possibly be looked into. What has happened though is that a bunch of people simply don't want to believe it so they don't; while another group of people were poking at others and institutions mere hours after the story broke, basically saying that if the institutions/people didn't denounce Krauss then that it meant they were fine with everything he allegedly did. This stuff isn't 'rational,' it's hysterical. And I can sympathise, and often have a similar response. Restraint (especially when I can stick up for people I perceive to be wronged, hurting or vulnerable) ain't exactly my own shining virtue. That doesn't make it right though. And of course some people cry "Verify!" as a stalling tactic, because they hope once the furor dies down enough people will just forget that it won't matter. But that doesn't mean it's wrong to verify just because some people would try to take advantage of it. Waiting a couple days for confirmation from someone other than Buzzfeed or random social media posts isn't going to bring the whole enterprise down; if it did, that'd say more about the people involved--that they're a fickle mob who won't care after a few days--than it would the process.

You make some good points.
Christ my God, set my heart on fire with love in You, that in its flame I may love You with all my heart, with all my mind, and with all my soul and with all my strength, and my neighbor as myself, so that by keeping Your commandments I may glorify You the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Amen.
