Just returned from a fantastic vacation in the beautiful Finger Lakes of NYS, and brought back some fantastic wines from the area.

Also, Corning Glass museum was fun as well

on that note, i should make/resurrect the NYS thread

I just spent the last week in Corning! Did you make it to Market Street while you were in town? And what lakes did you visit?

Remember, TheMathematician, this quiz makes up 15% of your final grade.

I'm convinced one of the madame clerks at the courthouse is an Irathient. She's got the hair and bone structure for it.

So I went to DL, despite a headache.

So as things progress, I keep seeing this flash of light out of the corner of my eye.  I wear glasses so I have -zero- clear peripheral vision, so I kept thinking 'is this my headache....am i seeing things?'   it was not consistent but kept happening, leaving me thinking i might need to go to the Dr. afterwards.

DL winds to a close, and as people go up to kiss the Cross and get a blessing, I see it again!  Only this time I can see that its at ground level and is attached to a small child, one of our Deacon's girls.  She has on new shoes that flash if she steps down hard enough!

I talked to the Diakonissa afterwards and told her my tale of thinking i was either very ill or insane, and we both had a good laugh. Evidently she didn't want to let the little one wear -those- shoes to Church, but they would not have arrived if she didn't.

A couple of Paschas ago, one of my kids switched shoes in the car and we didn't realize it until she started flashing in the otherwise darkened church.

I'm disappointed. I was almost sure this story was going to end with you seeing the Uncreated Light and going off to live in a monastery.

Which one of these jobs it would be hard to keep some of the Christian values and why...? ( I said "hard" not "impossible" ).

1/ Army man/woman.
2/ Lawyer / Public Prosecutor.
3/ Professor.
4/ Business man/woman.

All make it hard to serve God and not Mammon or the Evil One. Give up your jobs and take up the work.

I've found a home. a) It's a pub which b) is located near my apartment c) with an emphasis for local beers  d) from small breveries. I don't think I can get anyhow closer to Heaven on this side.

I was looking at a Russian-English dictionary from 1909 the other day when I realized that I much rather prefer the alphabet and orthography of Russian at the time. Is it too late to roll back a few reforms?

Tomorrow they are doing an ice water challenge thing at my school--whoever shows up and wants to participate can do so. On the one hand I want to do it so I can pat myself on the back for caring about humanity (for once), even if my action can't be directly connected with something that actually benefits someone other than myself. On the other hand it perpetuates this cycle of patting ourselves on our backs as a society for doing nearly nothing but feeling good about it, whereas doing just a little more than nearly nothing and making an actual impact is too much trouble for us. On the other other hand there will be (cold) girls with wet t-shirts. Hmm, I'm not sure they thought this through. Or did they...?

If anyone wants a REAL ice water challenge, they can go to Russia for Theophany and dip into a "Jordan" cut in the form of a cross. It will be very cold, but this does not deter those brave souls who dip into the water.

Lately I started trying to pray in Latin. I have to say it is not easy, but it is nice.
