The way I remember it, nobody expected citations (what were you supposed to do, carry your library with you?) and all arguments eventually became regurgitations of the same assertions in shorter and shorter, and bitterer and bitterer, form. ;) Such arguments could still last days, mind you, and references to one's uncle or uncle's pastor or something-I-read-once made for some pretty interesting filler.
LOL, appeals to authority were easier back then. It used to be volume, now its the ability to TL;DR everyone else into exhaustion.

Quote
Or of course there were the purely theoretical shout-matches. I remember in sixth grade about a week's-worth of lunches were dedicated to whether or not the interior of a watermelon could be proved to be red before it is cut open ...
That's when you try your damnedest to sneak in a yellow watermelon to throw the debate off the rails.

;D

If there were no internet, there would be a whole lot less people spouting obscure canons at each other.  We would have to find other reasons to anathemize each other.

Blessed Nazarius practiced the ascetic life. His clothes were tattered. He wore his shoes without removing them for six years.

After many weeks I finally got my pocket watch working again. It isn't easy messing with all those small parts. At least I'll be able to know what time is it when I go outside. Luckily I didn't have much reason to go outside with the summer vacation.

With what kind of clothes you're wearing it? I had one until I lost it. Now I'm using a crappy second hand watch. Not as fancy but it's easier to combne with more casual clothes. Also, it's annoying trying to dig a pocket watch from your pockets when you're wearing too slim jeans.

This is quite easily fixed.

I've worn too slim jeans for so long that I actually don't like regular male jeans anymore. I don't feel at home when I'm wearing those.  :P

How can you not love this fashion trend?

Nothing wrong with the slimness but one shouldn't roll the legs. It looks ridiculous.

Not to mention that kind of sneakers. If you have to wear sneakers at least buy a proper pair.

Either in the pocket of a waistcoat, with the chain going through one of the button holes or, lacking a waistcoat, in a pocket of my trousers, with the clip attached to one of my belt loops.

There's one mistake though. It's not "the main cathedral of the Finnish Orthodox Church." It's not the seat of our Archbishop.

Yeah.  On women.  Off women too.  But in any case women.

Imaginary Mor has a huge collection of women’s pants hanging on the wall of his basement. Every evening he sits down there with a tumbler of rice whiskey and stares at the wall, muttering to himself, “Yes, nice pants. Very awesome. Yes, very nice and awesome.”

Gender roles are boring. Many people don't really conform to them but for some reason seem to identify with them. I've never really understood why.

All opinions expressed by myself are quite tragically my own, and not those of any other poster or wall hangings.

That doesn't bother me. It is just the annoyance of millions of people dumping water on their head for no other reason than someone said it is for ALS.

Hey, why doesn't everyone stick a boot up their bum for hotchkins lymphoma?  It will help about as much.
God bless!

Just returned from a fantastic vacation in the beautiful Finger Lakes of NYS, and brought back some fantastic wines from the area.

Also, Corning Glass museum was fun as well

on that note, i should make/resurrect the NYS thread

Kermit the Frog's, Charlie Sheen's and George W. Bush's challenges were quite amusing.
