Good for you!  TM is one of the best organizations I know for personal and professional growth. Smiley

Of course, winning last night's humorous speech contest means I have to prepare for the area contest in two weeks.  A couple of tweaks to my speech, and I should be even better.  Maybe I'll even beat the gal who beat me last year. Grin

I could have submitted my humorous contest speech for the Tall Tales contest if only it weren't a true story and my district actually conducted Tall Tales contests.  What was your speech about?

It was called "How I Really Lost The Weight" about a series of evetns leading to my fabulous weight loss of the prior year - the tale involved a defective treadmill, a coma, and an unsuccessful liposuction.

Unfortunately I think this year's attempt will have to be "How I Really Gained BACK all that weight!!"

I guess, then, that I could make my tall tale about real life events, the likes of which constitute my humorous speech.  My current speech, "A Night on Patrol," is about that Halloween night I worked on the campus security patrol back in my college days.  The paintball sniper who had me always in his sights...  A squad of young men on an undie run...  A trio of young men following me around and mooning me whenever they had the chance...  Classic Halloween hijinks on a college campus.

I dreamed that I was having a nightmare, but in my dream I was afraid to wake myself up because then if I woke up for real I might find that the nightmare was real. It's weird when you dream that you're dreaming.

I really wish I could remember my dreams.  I don't even have the slightest recollection of them when I awake in the morning.  One moment it is night and I feel groggy, and then what seems like an instant, it is morning and my alarm is on.

If Brazil was an Orthodox contry, could the "Christ the Redeemer" or Rio de Janeiro be a "Christos Pantokrator"?

I hate it when I have a test in less than 8 hours, need to look over the material again, but have absolutely no inclination to study. It's even worse when one component of the test was a take home assignment that I also have no inclination to do.

Pretty good. Thanks for asking Smiley Just bouncing between agnosticism and Orthodoxy like has been normal for the last nearly 5 years. I guess I'll get straightened out eventually, whatever the truth is police

Regarding jury duty, sorry that you were in such a difficult position. I've been told many times that I might have to serve, but I only ever had to go to the courthouse once, and we were all dismissed without having to be involved with a case. I imagine it's hard to have the responsibility, especially as the potential consequences for the people involved increase.

EXTERMINATE!

« Reply #8318 on: October 04, 2010, 07:36:27 PM »

Round 2 tonight...  Competing against speakers from as many as four clubs outside of my own.

I'm hungry... time for a midnight snack. I'm going with Alexia Oven Fries... mmm...

I'll dip those suckers in some lovely Heinz ketchup and everything will be right with the world!

I won. Grin (My nerdy brand of humor got a lot of laughs. laugh) Next round: the division contest on October 21. If I win that, I go on to the District 7 finals.
