Well, really, our days fluctuate, so to be really scientifically accurate, we should shorten our days as the Earth's rotation speeds up and lengthen our days as it slows down. But for simplicity's sake, it's easier to have a leap day than to tell people "Today is 23 hrs. 54 min., but tomorrow is 23 hrs. 55 min." And hey, it could be worse: some calendars have a leap month!

I just had the pleasure of listening to a boatload of Eurovision songs since my fiancee and her sister always follow it (national pride and all). And I can honestly say that... this is the worst year yet. LoL! Thank God Italy no longer enters, but unfortunately poor San Marino got suckered in. Of course, they say Italy is scared of losing to Serbia so they backed out from it. Then I got some evil glares when I mentioned Serbia's position in Euro 2008. I might have put myself on some thin ice! |

The last time they entered was in 1997. Rating had gotten really bad so RAI lost interest in it. They are looking into entering again in the future, since Eurovision has exploded in membership since 2000 and it is becoming more popular within Italy again. They are in the "Big 5" so when/if they do join, they will auto-qualify. Based on their past efforts though, I don't think they should auto-qualify. |
