They should get rid of the penny. It would make it easier for the 17 year old at Dominick's who can't count to run his/her register. The only reason that prices end in .99 or .98 or the like is so that the penny stays in circulation. I would gladly accept that the .99 candy bar now costs 1.00 because the penny doesn't exist. Besides, then people can't use lines like:

"You can buy it for under $10,000. Its only 9,999.99!"

That's a ploy by marketeers and advertisers, not financiers. They use it to give the illusion of a lower price for a product.

And they could still say 9,999.99 - using a denomination of money that is no longer in circulation. Just look at gas prices and tax levies for use of the non-circulated mill.

You don't know what you're missing!  In my mom's village in Greece they cook them a few times per year.... Oh, the skin tastes so good once it's crisp (although her sick-o cousins like to eat the skin after it has cooled off.... ewwwww).
