Lot of people venerating Kosmos for Pentecost.

I saw that this evening and laughed.

Would you laugh when people were venerating the fires of God's love?  Because that's what was happening last night and today.

I had to come back last night from Lebanon to Poland urgently. It has been probably one of the most difficult nights in my life. On Thursday evening we had special meeting and decision that the Theological Institute still remain open at least until Paschal Monday and we have to stay tehre and not move farer and to our monaster and nearby shop.
On Friday before afternoon we had class and given subjects for presentations. Later nice lunch made up of falafel. 2nd Akathist with the Antiochian patriarch. In the end of supper new decision: evacuation of the Institute until Sunday evening, and special meetings for foreigners (i.e not Lebanese neither Syrians) that we should leave Lebanon as fast as possible. Coming back to the dorms, decision of Polish goverment to close the borders on Sunday and canell international flights. Looking for the ticket price-no matter-, and only direct as Europe is paralised. Found one. Packing all the stuff in 1 hour and half after spending there 1,5 year, actualy almost 2 academic years. Cry and worrisome of my family and my Lebanse boyfriend and my friends. Two checking in the plane. I'm not under quaranntine but Poland has closed most things, hope just to attend Liturgy tomorrow as my parish will serve in God's Will three.
So sad end of my studies in Lebanon. Maybe if the situation calms tehre will be grauation ceremony and I'll come there for a few days.
Just really thanks God, praise Him that I've arrived safely my home.

So strange: Great Lent and haven't been neither yesterday neither today to any service. My spiritual father told me to stay home with my parents.
There is law in Poland now to not make gatherings of people more than 50 people. So my parish organised 3 Liturgies and 2 of them had direct broadcast (maybe in USA it's quite common, but here not really). So despite now being in Poland and on distance 15 minutes by foot from my parish I was watching Liturgy on the direct broadcast.
I still can't believe in all of this.

Lord have mercy on us all!

In Rio there were still 15 confirmed cases statewide last Friday (now they're 24) and I got early vacations off both university and work (both my normal internship, that called us off, and my freelance work, since there will be no hearings), stimulated by the governor. I hope this all works out to keep us at a low count. If even the Italian health system is collapsing, I can't even imagine Rio's. No news at church yet, though.

So, my Lenten plan was essentially minimizing social engagements and general busyness, cutting out distractions like Netflix, and praying more.  Why did "sheltering in place" suddenly make that so much more difficult?   ???

I think many of us had simialr plans and suddenly... We're in such conditions.. In myc ase I find it difficult becasue very rapdily, by force evacuation from Lebanon into Poland, I've changed my way of life, food, climate, people, services every day etc.
In many cases I see being with own family 24 hours per day is difficult and qurarrelsome.

I'm not sure I can give up seasonal changes.
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, & godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope & glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed & purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.  Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Having four seasons is the best thing about British weather.

Rio doesn't have seasons, we just play weather in shuffle mode. The mountainous landscape and the meeting of many currents has funny outcomes.

For instance, some areas had hail this summer, but there was also a day of 52 Celsius apparent temperature. Last winter had some days above 30 Celsius, but one mountain also had a night below zero. Last fall I entered the metro in my university (where there was no rain at all) and, after a 20-minute ride, I got out at my neighbourhood and found myself landlocked in the worst flood of the year.  :o

Sounds like an even crazier version of Georgia.  :o  I'm not sure we have mountains and multiple currents to blame though.
I like the shuffle mode metaphor.

Finns don't have either. We used to have seasons but nowadays we only have perpetual November. Or that how last winter felt. No proper winter, no snow but still dark and it's was always raining. Maybe the sun was in quarantine too.

In our case, it's more about how the mountains can hold many different weathers in a relatively small area.  When people have news of an ongoing storm, their first reaction is to text everyone to check the whole picture, and many times I've seen people say their not-so-distant neighbourhoods were dry and calm.

Fun fact, some people claim that the lyrics of one of the most internationally acclaimed songs of our country is about Rio's floods. For some dark irony, the hamlet where the song was composed was eventually destroyed by a flood.

In addition to Helsinki there seems to be quite many others who have streamed at least something at some point. Don't know which of these will do streaming during this weekend but I assume most will do some. We only have two monasteries (and some communities without monastery status). In case you're interested in one of these it's the link with "Valamon luostarin verkkolähetykset" text.

Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.

I'm watching liturgy from India today. Apparently Indians have filthy papalist calendar too. :-* I hope various churches will continue streaming services after the quarantine is over.

The Armenians celebrate tomorrow, too.
Is any of the above Orthodox?  I have no idea, so there’s that.

Pray for me, a wretched sinner.

Jacob wrestled with God all through the night.  At the break of day, he became Israel.

Actually I’m confused about this year, because it really should be tomorrow.   ???  Unless Passover really is still a factor.

We are the filthiest!

Thanks for your links earlier, I was able to catch some of the Paschal services from the Helsinki Cathedral (I think?) while waiting for our Paschal Vigil to start.

The service starts with the Midnight Office during the course of which is proclaimed the Resurrection, followed by the conclusion of the Midnight Office and the beginning of Paschal Matins and the Hours.  After that is the Rite of the Paschal Kiss and the Exaltation of the Cross, followed immediately by the Liturgy.

Michael Jackson is dead.
And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers?
