When did noise pollution stop being a thing?
Wishing to grant pardon for ancient debts, he who cancels the debts of all people came himself and dwelt among those who were estranged from his divine grace; and tearing apart the record of sin, he hears from everyone: Alleluia.

Everyone got used to the noise, because we hate silence.
Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.

Lot of people venerating Kosmos for Pentecost.

I saw that this evening and laughed.

Same.  Then it stopped being funny when it easily became the vast majority of the parish.

A few years ago our bishop visited on St Demetrius Day, and gave a short homily at vigil before the veneration of the icon, not to venerate the horse.

That's a St. George problem, too.

What do the colored squares mean over on the left under our names?

My guess is status and post count.
Is any of the above Orthodox?  I have no idea, so there’s that.

My wisdom teeth or somewhere in my house.

After using a turkey baster to isolate Mystery Worm Thing in a cup, taking about 7 pictures, failing to post on a fish forum, and spending about an hour googling, I've learned that I just removed a mosquito larva from the betta tank.  Crisis averted.  Now I need to figure out why the snail is catatonic.  ???

Pomacea bridgesii?  Perhaps the mosquito larvae colonized the unfortunate gastropod?  Leaving it a broken, ghostly, lifeless shell of a snail.

  The snail seemed fine visibly, just sick.  Ammonia and pH were the more likely culprits, I discovered.  "He" died before I could address those issues.  I need to bury it, because that is my child's request.  I think the Betta can take care of the mosquito larvae, if there are any more (it seems likely).  Being me, I immediately figured it was a terrible fish-eating parasitic critter.  But no, just the offspring of an errant mosquito.   ;D

I would get another snail if I were you.  No aquarium is complete without a gallant gastropod.

My son's secondary school should invest in a sorting hat. That's how big a deal sorting the newcomers into their houses seems to be, they might as well add a bit of spectacle.

Not here. Primary is 4-11 (reception and years 1-6), secondary is 11-16 (years 7-11), and sixth form is 16-18 (years 12-13).

I saw a hiring ad for a hospice chaplain that included "bonus incentives." What can that mean? Like baptisms earn more? If people feel super comforted by your guidance, you get cash?
Blessed Nazarius practiced the ascetic life. His clothes were tattered. He wore his shoes without removing them for six years.

THE OPINIONS HERE MAY NOT REFLECT THE ACTUAL OR PERCEIVED ORTHODOX CHURCH

Take a breath, read Ecclesiastes 1:9.

More like the more people you comfort, the more they pay you.  That is if the family doesn't file a complaint, even though the patient is comforted.

When my dad first started going abroad, he didn't know English, so he spoke Spanish to everyone. Problem is he didn't speak Spanish either. I really wonder how he managed to go around New York airports, touristic sites, museums, restaurants, cabs, etc., just using messed up Portuguese.

When my dad first started going abroad, he didn't know English, so he spoke Spanish to everyone. Problem is he didn't speak Spanish either. I really wonder how he managed to go around New York airports, touristic sites, museums, restaurants, cabs, etc., just using messed up Portuguese.

Nuyoricans speak messed up Spanish, too.

Modernist thinking and being consists of nothing but uncritical acceptance.

Scriptures for today

Romans 8:14-21

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba,Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

Matthew 9:9-13

9 As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him.

10 Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

12 When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
