I'm no fan of Pope Francis, but I do applaud his apparent stance on homosexuality and the priesthood (though I do question whether he only said this to appease conservative Catholics). It amazes me that some people take these comments to be "homophobic" simply because it displays a traditional Christian mindset. It also shows me that once again the LGBT community has twisted the meaning of "homophobic" to fit their agenda.

To follow up on my original post, I'd like to say Lifesite did a pretty good article on this whole situation.

I don't understand how can people even live in Bangu. The heat there is inhuman, often exceding 40 Celsius air temperature and 50 apparent.

It is 34º here and I am already melting, how someone can live in a place with temperatures like more than 40º?

São Paulo wasn't a big deal until the 1960's. We in Rio are still butthurt.

The buildings of old downtown are almost the same than in 1947, minus the charm and safety of those times, plus hundreds of crackheads.

Not really. It's not too uncommon in the south to have barely any snow. AFAIK it's not even related to global warming but rather been like that at least a hundred years. It really varies on a yearly basis.

When I used to live I in the east we always had snow. A lot, always and everywhere. I kind of miss that.

+1

Me 7 years ago. On Christmas Eve (prior to Christmas Eve's Liturgy, more precisely).

So, that's one of the reasons I can't imagine me celebrating this feast on the old calendar. And that's surprising since then my priest chose this date for purpose. And now, when he became rector (the dean/main priest) at our parish, he canlled even Liturgy of the 2nd day according to the new calendar (only great compline and matins on Christmas Eve, and Liturgy in the morning for the 1st day).

Thanks God, I'm in the place where Orthodox Christians don't have such problems :D
Edit: the minus is that there is only my mum (she came there a few days ago), the seminarians left the Institute to spend this festal season at their homes, so no big choir, no people to enjoy the time. But well, spiritually, it's a great oppurtnity: today, in the morning of the Christmas Eve, I spent 4 hours at church: midnight service, Matins, the Royal Hours, Vesperal Liturgy of st. Basil the Great :)

Does anyone love NASA go/no-go checklist polls as much as I do?

Also, I really really wish the Buran orbiter had not been destroyed in that hangar collapse.  Buran was an amazing spacecraft with slightly more payload than our Space Shuttle, that could have greatly aided the construction of the ISS or the Hubble telescope program, as it lacked internal main engines, only having onboard retro rockets, maneuvering thrusters, et cetera, and it had automatic landing capabilities; NASA was aware for many years of the risks of heatshield damage on launch, and had NASA supported Buran and done a technology exchange with the Russians and gained full automation, this would have increased the options for what to do if either one of their spacecraft or one of ours suffered a foam strike.  So Buran was immune to the specific failure mode of Challenger and could have been evacuated and an unmanned landing attempted in the event of Columbia.  A lot of this technology, including the launch platform itself, could have been ported to the Space Shuttle (remove the main engines on our shuttles, use the Energia boosters from Buran, and voila).

Furthermore, we could have kept internal engines on some of our space shuttles (perhaps simply build Endeavour and rebuild Enterprise without internal main engines, which never had completed main engines, to operate in a Buran-compatible manner, and leave Columbia, Discovery and Atlantis as-is), and then combined Columbia, Discovery and Atlantis with an enhanced launch stage with more boosters snd/or a larger external fuel tank, and an internal fuel tank occupying 2/3 of the payload bay, or perhaps the entire bay, for Lunar missions.

Soyuz in turn could have been retired as the main launch system for cosmonauts but retained for cargo resupplies and for use as emergency return vehicles on the ISS or on space shuttles travelling to Hubble.   It really sucks what they could have done with existing technology, but never did.  It is a crime.

Even though I haven't written fiction in a long time, I still like to make up short character descriptions that are meant to be completely summary. For example, "He was the kind of man who longed for a daughter because he relished the idea of threatening her boyfriends while they waited for her to finish getting ready for an evening out."
Blessed Nazarius practiced the ascetic life. His clothes were tattered. He wore his shoes without removing them for six years.

Sometimes I wonder if I ever bought milk from the same cow twice.

Sometimes I wonder if I ever bought milk from the same cow twice.

When you consider that milk is collected in a large container unit before it is bottled, it's possible you've purchased milk from the same several cows more than once. It's certainly a possibility if you purchase the same brand over and over, since they often have contracts with dairies that last a long time.
