Oh my God, I may have become a hipster.

Which is weirdly very often the first step toward a hard right veer. Soon localism will become monarchism. Beware, young friend, beware.
Blessed Nazarius practiced the ascetic life. His clothes were tattered. He wore his shoes without removing them for six years.

Be sure to post in the menswear, beard, and cigar threads.

Loads of hipsters become some version of Proud Boy. For that matter, the founder of Vice is the founder of the Proud Boys.

Hi, just wanted to pop on and let you guys know that I'm fine after the earthquake. Not much damage to the house at all, even. Thank God!

See you later!
Christ my God, set my heart on fire with love in You, that in its flame I may love You with all my heart, with all my mind, and with all my soul and with all my strength, and my neighbor as myself, so that by keeping Your commandments I may glorify You the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Hi

I am going to be off the forum until Nativity. Priest advised me to study the Bible and holy texts during the Nativity fast and not to use this forum until I do so, after the fast.

Goodbye for now!
“God,”
The words rumbled:
“There is much suffering,
But the church is alive. "

“How long, Archpriest, are we to suffer thus?” I answered: “Until our very death, Markovna!” And she replied, with a sigh: “So be it, Petrovich, let us plod on.” - Life of Avvakum by Himself

Nastasya, Nastasya, be
patient and do not cry:
Not every happiness
Comes in the clothing of fortune.

First time in my life (and I hope the last one) I've drank alcohol during the Nativity Fast.
But if the Antiochian patriarch has a toast for Allah, and then the dean of the theological institute approaches to your table and mentions your name, with Lebanese wine, are you dare to not drink?...

Edit: of course, not intentionally, I was sitting to the table the closes to the patriarch's one. But I've not done anything stupid (that usually happens to me). The POC may be proud of me.

I should have written rather "in the name of Allah" plus wishes that Allah keep as in good health.

The bell of the huge and important church near my workplace is consistently six minutes too early everyday. Maybe it's to overcompensate for generalised sluggishness? So people who would be six minutes late if they didn't listen to the bells are actually on time...  8) :police:

Anyone have a recommendation for a family board game other than the obvious choices (Monopoly, Yahtzee, etc.)?

Just teach them an actual board game like D&D, they'll love it once they understand what's going on.

Are things like Chess, Risk, and Othello "obvious choices"?
They play Even Steven's Odd; I haven't so I'm not sure what it is.  Clue, Apples to Apples.  Jenga.
Do card games count?  I grew up around Euchre.

Well, my main concern is that the potential age of players would range from grade school to adult, and I'm not sure what will keep adults interested but not be completely over the heads of kids or make them bored? Supposing a family with kids age 6, 12 and 14, and then a couple adults?

I'll look up the ones mentioned on amazon though... :)

Is there enough time/space to maybe get a couple of choices and either rotate or have different areas set up?  For more difficult games, the youngest could partner with an adult or simply watch.  Six is definitely still young enough to park on someone's lap and "help."  Or there could be a puzzle or something similar for those who opt out of the game at hand.  It's ok if not everyone is enthralled the whole time, really.  As long as no one is melting down over their own boredom, it's all good.  :)

When I look at the sheer number of former interns and direct underlings who no longer work in the industry, I wonder if 1). I am a lot of people's reasons for seeing the light and getting the hell out, or 2). they're just way smarter than I am and got out while the getting's good.

I recall reading here and there about something called "Sisters of Mercy" who do charity work in Russia and which seemingly resembles various active orders of RCs despite them being Orthodox. I wonder where I could read more about them and how they came to be?

St Elisabeth the New Martyr established such an order. The St Elisabeth Monastery in Minsk has an active corps of them- among other things they run a home for special needs children (unfortunately in Belarus the parents just abandon them) as well as a home for recovering addicts.

St Elisabeth the New Martyr established such an order. The St Elisabeth Monastery in Minsk has an active corps of them- among other things they run a home for special needs children (unfortunately in Belarus the parents just abandon them) as well as a home for recovering addicts.

I'm no fan of Pope Francis, but I do applaud his apparent stance on homosexuality and the priesthood (though I do question whether he only said this to appease conservative Catholics). It amazes me that some people take these comments to be "homophobic" simply because it displays a traditional Christian mindset. It also shows me that once again the LGBT community has twisted the meaning of "homophobic" to fit their agenda.
