Third Rome, but not as cool as the Fourth.
Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.

I suddenly have the urge to put on an Old-Rite Russian mitre.

I mean seriously, it looks super comfy!

It looks quite warm as well, which would come in handy.

so, what are the opinions of the People here of the Russian Orthodox church!

The corruption of its hierarchy is exceeded only by the holiness of its saints.

I can't say much, because politics, but just wanted to say ok, yeah, the events of the last ~3 years have taught me that I was very wrong; screw compromise, it ain't gonna work, I was a fool for thinking it would or even could.

I recently saw a cartoon that said, "I'm a moderate. I can see both sides have good points. One side wants to gas the opposition, while the other side really doesn't want to die. So we should compromise and only gas half."

To be honest, I suspect most of the episcopacy. So did St. John Chrysostom, so I can delude myself into thinking I'm in his company.

Anyway, the tendency of the ROC to appear to support the state or to allow itself to be leveraged for Russian nationalism lends itself to my suspicions. But like I said in the earlier post, I think the ROC, especially in recent centuries, has produced some of the holiest wilderness saints and later martyrs.

I don't like bananas.

but why?

Because bananas as you can buy them today, in the stores, are a man -made invention. Wild bananas look and taste nothing like what you can buy in grocergy stores. God gave us bananas perfectly as he created thenm. WHat part of "AND IT WAS GOOD" do people not understand?

I just had a look at some wild bananas and now I am shooketh!

Trypophobia is kicking in (don't google it, it's disturbing;
It's a gross reaction to patterns of holes on textures that they shouldn't be on (e.g., skin))

Why did they have to get ride of that mitre. It looks so awesome - and it fits perfectly with "Russian Orthodoxy." I could totally see Patriarch Kirill wearing that thing.

I know right? it's so nice. I blame Czar Peter the I, he's the one who altered the original Russian crown to be up to European standards. Just look at the crown Czar Peter wore compared to Czar Mikhail (a Czar that lived before the reforms).

Crown worn by Peter the I

The Russian church hasn't got rid of that type of mitre. Here's a protopriest (priest authorized to wear a mitre):

^Esseantially it really has. I assume there's not too many of hierarchs and priests using that kind of mitre. I guess it isn't forbidden but I assume if some random new rite Priest/Bishop chose to wear that kind of mitre he'd get weird looks.

I think it's similar situation like with Serbian type of mitres: it's not abolished totally, but only a few bishops (I think 3 or 4) wear them.

I feel guilty that I haven't been today to Liturgy. But my priest told me (eh, it's now third year) to celebrate saints Peter and Paul feast on 12th July. Quite strange.

If it makes you feel better, I didn’t go to Liturgy today.  The Man wouldn’t let me.

It actually makes me feel worse knowing that three of us didn't make it to church.
Blessed Nazarius practiced the ascetic life. His clothes were tattered. He wore his shoes without removing them for six years.

Take a breath, read Ecclesiastes 1:9.

My localish parishes serve it the evening before; is that peculiar to my area?
Is any of the above Orthodox?  I have no clue, so there's that.

Bus driver: oh look, I'm 40 minutes behind schedule...

Also bus driver: Maybe I'll just be polite and let these people go before me at the intersection, it's not like I have anywhere to be...

It's peculiar to Antiochians.

Though I'm OK with it, supposing I could ever make it.

You should have let me know.  I would have had Vadim cover for you.  He only goes to Church on Pascha to light candles and booze it up with the Romanians.
Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.

It's probably difficult either way, really.  It'd be nice to live where there were both options, but barring that, I guess we do our level best with what we've got and try to be at peace with that.  :)
