I feel like there's an idea for a novel in there somewhere...
Christ my God, set my heart on fire with love in You, that in its flame I may love You with all my heart, with all my mind, and with all my soul and with all my strength, and my neighbor as myself, so that by keeping Your commandments I may glorify You the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Amen.

The Indian version is much better than the U.S. version, which requires you to run 5k for cancer or something.

In another state, scoping out a parish to attend tomorrow morning. American Orthodoxy is so... idiosyncratic?

How'd it go?  If you can share with discretion.  Do you contact a parish you're visiting beforehand, or only if you're wanting to commune?
I was raised and live in a milieu that feels that traveling = no church.  It's either just another day to do what you want, or a day to drive to/from you destination.   :-\
It was very nice! An OCA cathedral. I didn't contact, just looked up the service time and attended. The choice was recommended to me by our own Mor Ephrem.

I'm sure he knows all the best cathedrals.  :D  Glad it was nice!  I guess those wouldn't be too difficult to drop in on.  Wherever I'm bound to visit will mostly likely not have a cathedral handy.

Yeah, fast baptisms like that are kind of controversial within Orthodoxy. I think it's supposed to be a lot slower.

That reminded me of various cheese stores without any First-World standards on hygiene encountered  while traveling. Judging by the odour those kind of cheeses would probably cause horrible nightmares rather than nice dreams.

Even the slow ones are pretty fast. Most priests are loathe to be seen taking their time lifting a baby's face from the water.  ;)

Unless they go Greek style (baby sitting in water up to the armpits, more water poured over head), which can be pretty leisurely.

My oldest daughter, who had just turned two, braced herself against the font and refused to go under, so the priest more or less did that except using his hands to cup the water.

To me too, but awake.

BTW, I think the only time I drank real absinthe was a bottle from Hymietown Mortown New York. I've drank several brands here, but I think it was just neutral spirit with green colourant and fake herbal flavour. Lame.

I've never had absinthe. I've had chances, and always ended up going 'meh, next time'. Perhaps if I'm actually offered some, I'll go with it.

Cheese, on the other hand, has never disagreed with me, no matter the time of day or night. Melted cheddar or mozzarella on toast make great midnight snacks.

Real absinthe does not actually cause hallucinations, unless there are some very dangerous impurities in there.

Philadelphia Distilling puts out a good one.

I feared the one I drank could give me allergies since it had stinging nettle in the formula, but it just gave an awesome sensation in the mouth and throat. My grandma loved it too lol

Real absinthe does not actually cause hallucinations, unless there are some very dangerous impurities in there.

Philadelphia Distilling puts out a good one.

Marilyn Manson used to sell his own brand of absinthe called "Mansinthe."

Not sure if this is cool or idiotic. Probably both. Of course he had to do it.
I just need to find out how to say it in Slavonic!

Saturday is my do-nothing day.
Is any of the above Orthodox?  I have no idea, so there’s that.

No, no, common mistake. He was a freebird, and that bird you could not change.
Blessed Nazarius practiced the ascetic life. His clothes were tattered. He wore his shoes without removing them for six years.

Take a breath, read Ecclesiastes 1:9.

He was also a baby-eating Jew
Christ my God, set my heart on fire with love in You, that in its flame I may love You with all my heart, with all my mind, and with all my soul and with all my strength, and my neighbor as myself, so that by keeping Your commandments I may glorify You the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Amen.

Was the Revolutionary War ritual murder?
“Steel isn't strong, boy, flesh is stronger! That is strength, boy! That is power! What is steel compared to the hand that wields it?  Contemplate this on the tree of woe.” - Elder Thulsa Doom of the Mountain of Power

Mencius said, “Instruction makes use of many techniques. When I do not deign to instruct someone, that too is a form of instruction.”

Come look at my lame blog

Yes. Offered to Mammon in the name of the business class.
