I think this might have been discussed elsewhere, so apologies for asking again, but what kind of music is predominant in the PAOC?

Obihod. It's predominant, but not the unique type of chant used here, ofc.

Is there a native Polish Orthodox chant tradition?

Supraśl chant, above all. There are some Podlachian melodies, but rather no well preserved. Of course, you can consider Galician chant as a part of a broad Polish (or the Commonwealth) Orthodox tradition.

The problem (or it isn't a problem) that apart from monasteries there is not chanting but choral music.

Yeah, that's true. Well, there are some parishes that are exceptions...

Ah, I have an album of Suprasl chants by the Russian Patriarchate Choir (dir. Anatoly Grindenko). It's really beautiful. I had thought it was just znamenny- I didn't realize it was a distinct kind of chant.

As an aside, I like to think that nothing I "rock out" to would have raised eyebrows in 1885.

By the way, since your posts are the only known cure for my arthritic agony, I will probably be forced to resort to posting exceedingly outlandish materiel, even by my own Wagnerian standards, for the sole purpose of obtaining more of them once I deplete your thread history.  We might well be forced to explore in precise detail my plan to exterminate all of the world's scorpions for recreational purposes.

I think it may be too good to be true.  But then again, I've seen some crazy things sold in nick nack shops in the city.  Maybe this is a festivus miracle.

Alas the problem with that chap is he is killing giant scorpions in an undignified manner.  The opportunity to terminate giant scorpions should be regarded with celebration; it is a white tie event, and one suitably attired in a tophat, tails, and with an appropriate cane or umbrella, should then use that instrument to extract the life of the disagreeable creatures wirh a dispassioned facial expression.  A good musical accompaniement would be the Grand March from Aida.

I should also add the use of a protective monocle on the better eye is recommended; this does alas leave one eye unprotected, but the silver lining to that cloud is the prospect of wearing an interesting eye patch, like the Man in the Hathaway Shirt.

Anyway, what are your impressions from your choir singing?

I'll tell you next sunday (most likely).

Well, it wasn't 100% bad. I was trying to sing quietly enough so that I would not interfer with others. I was given notes what was very nice despite the fact I do not understnd anything about them. The  biggest problem is  there is little space for the  choir to stand and I had to stand at a step so my head was above everyone else and all the people could freely look at me.

Haha, I see. So in the church you're currenly attending the kliros is not on the balcony?

So I was talking to a priest with Jewish origins something about German Jews and a friend was with us.

Priest: So, how come do you know these stuff?
Me: Well, I really like Germany.
Priest: I see, why Germany, though?
Friend: Ha! Because he's a Nazi, that's why!

I love completely out of place jokes.

You were not invited. :P

It's a bunch of friends gathering up for a conference chat on the night of midwinter (which was last night), aiming to go on for most of the night, if not all. Life has scattered us over three continents and for a few of us it's the only time in the year when we're guaranteed to attend. We've done it on Yahoo, that's how far back it goes, then G+ and now Skype. It's very easy to lose track of time and stay up much later than planned, since there's so much catching up to do.

This is way more normal than I thought. Must've been fun.

It better be golden pages, with platinum lettering and diamond filled titles on the cover!

Either that or I should be able to go from 0 to 60mph in 10 seconds with this book.

That reminds me, I better snag the edition of St. Theophan the Recluse's The Path to Salvation currently gathering dust in the parish bookstore before I'm forced to pay over double on Amazon for a used copy.
