Almost all my ancestors are Portuguese, but this very branch of the family that goes back to royalty has African and Native American in it. I also have some Sephardic Jewish.

I am descended from farmers, slaves, and travelers, but not necessarily in that order.

Oh no!  The dried apricots I'm eating come from Turkey!  Am I going to hell?

If you eat something from Serbia it should even out.

He didn't get I was talking about unglorified saints like Frs. Seraphim Rose or Cleopa Ilie, but it was a good one.

and a very well meaning coworker made a silly joke about getting a cup and throwing some Holy Water on me.

I merely replied 'I won't melt'

If only I was a descendant of Piast Kołodziej, founder of the Piast dynasty of Kings of Poland.
Of course, names didn't work that way back then. But it makes for a better story than being a descendant of peasants from Kąkolówka, one of whom made wheels...

You should pray for the soul of James.

The "Schlock Icon" thread is over there somewhere...
...and some Episcopal church somewhere has probably put it up next to St. Martin Luther King, Jr. the New-Martyr of America already.

"Robinson's first feature film role was in 1971's Dirty Harry. Don Siegel, the film's director, and Clint Eastwood picked Robinson for the role after seeing him in a production of Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Idiot. Robinson was cast as the Scorpio Killer, the antagonist of the film... His portrayal was so convincing that he received death threats after the film's release."

I wonder if anyone mentions such threats having to do with actors and the theater in the ancient world...

I made pickles yesterday. Only a dozen pints but two types (6 of each): zucchini & carrot, and lemon-spiced beans. Hope to do dill pickles later this week, and bread-and-butters next week (at least two dozen of each).

I am trying out new multifocus contact lenses.

its very odd and strange to both see and have things blurry at the same time.  In theory my brain will adjust in the next 7-10 days of wearing them and see just fine.

for now, I am sort of odd (er than normal)

Its one of the few things that made me cry....the loss of my close up vision....

I have such bad nearsightedness that when the last bit of 'clear vision' I had...started going away due to presbyopia,  I cried at being 100% non clear seeing..there is no distance at which my own eyes see anything and can function without correction.

I'm very nearsighted as well.  My vision is about -5.75.  I haven't reached the age of presbyopia yet, but give thanks that we have other ways where we see clearly, not just with our vision, but with our faith.  :)

I am at a -4.00 and then the Presbyopia hit...lets just say its mind boggling not to be able to clearly see your own shoulder.....I have a 'things are clear' spot about 9 inches from my eyes...but that's like maybe an inch in depth, so now I need correction for both and the presbyopia got much worse this year.

Mystery solved! It's the tiny little link where it says SMF 2.0.11 at the bottom of the page.

Now why anyone would want to do so is another ineffible mystery, though...

We're renting our home for gringos for the Olympics. Should I first pack my stuff or pee on my bed to mark territory?

We're renting our home for gringos for the Olympics. Should I first pack my stuff or pee on my bed to mark territory?

Leave me some feijoada please.
God bless!

I'm currently writing an article on Macaulay and the British Raj. Ah yes, those were the days.

Oh, how much whinging the subaltern studies folks do about the quote: "It is, I believe, no exaggeration to say that all the historical information which has been collected from all the books written in the Sanskrit language is less valuable than what may be found in the most paltry abridgement used at preparatory schools in England."

I am fond of the Gen. Napier quote(s) from that era/locale.
If anything I have posted has been illuminating, please remember that I merely reflect the light of others...but also it's me.

Way to show better maturity levels.
So I guess I should pack my stuff first.

Leave me some feijoada please.

There may be urine in it.

Feijoada is good, but you must try farofa de içá (made with ants).
