Yay, I just had my first Sam Adams Oktoberfest on tap last night. 'Tis the season for a good domestic. Between Oktoberfest and Winter Lager, my faith in American beer is restored, only to be ripped away by the cruel hands of February, when I head back overseas until September.

Remember - Sam Adams Lager was approved to be produced and distributed in Germany (meaning it conforms to the purity law); how many domestic beers can claim that?

I have seen a basement since '66... We're fortunate enough to have a few local "Micro" brews here - they're nice because they normally have local names, good flavor, and are not too expensive (not in the Budweiser category, but then again they don't taste like water, either).

That's what you were talking about? Oh, I could have told you about their contracting out for bottled distribution - I've been on the tour in Boston 3 or so times. However, When they slapped the Sam Adams name on the label, they were only brewing in the one local brewery in Boston (The Boston Beer Company). Nice place, by the way. You get about the equivalent of a pint and a half of free beer at the end of the tour.

Reading the history, seems very little is made in Boston - an R&D brewery. It's fine with me...we just used to chuckle about the great Boston beer made in the old "Arn brewy" in Pittsburgh-speak.

Oh yeah - the brewery there is large enough to only supply R&D, and kegs to the local market. Now, their major production site is in the great beer-making state of.... Ohio. (Home to a massive operation for Budweiser as well).

We also make salt (no, that's not describing our temperaments after the Browns-Steelers games), corn, buckeyes (not the poisonous nuts, the Peanut Butter and Chocolate candies that look like the poisonous nuts), and tangible military victories over Canada (Oliver Hazard Perry, anyone?).

It was early last December, as near as I remember I was strolling down the way in tipsy pride. Not a soul was I disturbing, as I lay down by the curbing And a pig came up and lay down by my side. As I lay there in the gutter, thinking thoughts I cannot utter, I heard a high born lady pause and say "You can tell a man who boozes by the company he chooses"... And the pig got up and slowly walked away. Ebor

Fatty and skinny went off to bed. Fatty rolled over, and skinny was dead. If skinny drank more beer, he would be large enough to not die from said attack of the fatty. The moral: never sleep in the same bed with someone who is either (a) not a beer drinker, or (b) more than double your own mass.

Never Write Poetry With A Hangover
By Christian Ward
I fed last nightās verse packs of cigarettes and half opened cans of Guinness
brown rimmed craters started to appear like cracks in the pages, but I was too sober to notice;
I still had the taste of the half eaten verse in my mouth, which was slowly falling out, leaving holes in the carpet.
A postcard of better times still hangs in the back of my mind.
I havenāt destroyed that yet.

Booze!ā the firemen cried, as they cam a-knockinā at the door; Oh donāt let āem in ātil itās all mopped up, somebody shouted āMacIntyre!ā MacIntyre!!! LET'S DRINK UNTIL WE GO! BY ROGUEHAMMER
Breakfast is a good meal, O' good olā bacon and eggs, The whites give you your fingers And the yolk gives you your legs!
Lunch is a better meal, Cheese and buttered toast, Butter gives you lots oā warmth, But it's bread you love the most!
Dinner is the best meal, Meat, bread, fruit and cheer! And froth gives you the hiccups, But bodyās better here!
Yea, better still are drinking times, Better than the best, For as we know, the drinks are yet Better than the rest!
We donāt care for tea and loibl, All we want is ale, Weāll drink and drink and eat and eat And again until weāre pale!
O, the skies are good for flyinā, The fields are good for lyinā But as we well know, the rest is just for show, Weāre drinkinā till weāre dyinā! As we well know, the rest is just for show, But we're quaffing, till we go - ho!

Oh, yeah... that Ukie-Canadian accent... *scary*. as for your wondering: I wonder why every conversation in this thread, always comes back to alcohol.......
I suppose the answer is that we use the e-drinking in this thread to kick back after long days of theology, ecclesiology, politics, and the like... I guess this makes the thread more like the OC.net local pub - a place to talk about random subjects and enjoy a few e-suds.
