They thought it through, Justin.  Man, do I miss college...

Yah... I'm going to participate, but I'll be disgusted with myself afterwards.

Tomorrow they are doing an ice water challenge thing at my school--whoever shows up and wants to participate can do so. On the one hand I want to do it so I can pat myself on the back for caring about humanity (for once), even if my action can't be directly connected with something that actually benefits someone other than myself. On the other hand it perpetuates this cycle of patting ourselves on our backs as a society for doing nearly nothing but feeling good about it, whereas doing just a little more than nearly nothing and making an actual impact is too much trouble for us...

I heard a statistic today about this. I have no idea if it's true, but the one professor said that they generally raise 1.5 million (just one group? I don't know who he meant?) for ALS during the summer months, but that they were up to 50 million this summer. Take that unverified statistic for what it's worth (which I assume you don't know the accuracy of, either, in which case it would be hard to determine it's worth, but nonetheless, take this post for what it's worth while taking the statistic for what it's worth... which is... OH NEVER MIND  Grin ).

What's up with all the pre-raphaelites?

Who came before St. Raphael of Brooklyn, and why are people following them?  Huh

The county library system has secured two education portals with hundreds of courses, a language learning resource (over 80 languages) and an e-magazine reader, all for absolutely free. So much to read, so little time...

They're actually quite simple, especially for the crafty kind, as so many nail enthusiasts are. The likes of me need to stick with clear polish, because I can't put on a single coloured coat evenly.

When I was maybe 11-13 years old I used to love looking through the Guinness World Records books, but these kinds of things (long fingernails, purposely deformed heads, necks, feet, etc.) always seemed the craziest. I mean, some things are crazy but then they're over and you move on with your life... but imagine living every day like that.

Well, for one thing, you're getting better. The older image betrays some fragmentation of personality, perhaps not to an intolerable extent, but the new one shows recovery.

I see an individual who has become increasingly unstable, who frequently sharpens his knives and whispers "Someday, my precious". I see evidence of grandiose plans to stage a coup and take over oc.net. There also seems to be a hint of the sin of prelest with a dollop of dissimulation.

The difference in the J signifies that you are less open now then you were then,  a bit more rigid in thinking and more closed off to others.  The changes in your last name indicate a more precise spirit then before, when you were a bit more happy and free spirited.

My sister has got the New Testament written out that way. Don't know how long it took her. She's also got her own paraphrase of most of the NT written out by hand (just a way of studying).

My sister has got the New Testament written out that way. Don't know how long it took her. She's also got her own paraphrase of most of the NT written out by hand (just a way of studying).

Now that is wonderful.  I've toyed with the idea of doing something like that, whether just to copy out the RSV or to translate from Greek as a way of studying.  The former is more likely, but even likelier is that I'll get lazy and not do it.  Tongue

I'm thinking about making a big binder of different akathists... the amount of ink toner required gives me some pause but I think this would be a cool project.

I plan on doing that with The Prologue of Ohrid, as I don't care to archive the internet printouts. By hand, in fountain pen, naturally.

You modernist!

Clearly the only way to truly do this is to write them out with pen.

Fountain pen.

Maybe even a dip pen with a feather.

I did this with the Bible.  But I used a regular ball point pen.  Actually, several.

Again, wonderful.

My sister has got the New Testament written out that way. Don't know how long it took her.

I will pray for you, "TheTrisagion"

Not to toot my own horn too much, but I do have some nice-looking cursive so maybe I will write it out instead (anyone willing to donate a nice fountain pen for this worthy cause is welcome to do so)

Wow!  Looks like I missed a real humdinger discussion about nail polish yesterday!  Wink

I can still post the tutorial for these here... Wink

Good for Halloween along with a witch costume.

The latest issue of JoAnn's flyers has a lot of costumes and costume material on sale.
And it is only August. Well, almost September.
