All hail President Chaney!

Bush yields power for colonoscopy
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6909160.stm

US President George W Bush handed power to Vice-President Dick Cheney for just over two hours while he underwent a routine check for cancer of the colon.

Five small growths, or polyps, were removed during the colonoscopy but "none appeared worrisome", White House spokesman Scott Stanzel said.

Under the US constitution, power can be transferred to the vice-president if the president is incapacitated.

Mr Bush first had the minor procedure in June 2002.

It was performed on Saturday at the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland.

Mr Bush was "in good humour" afterwards and ready to resume "his normal activities" at Camp David, Mr Stanzel said.

'No symptoms'

Mr Bush transferred his authority at 0716 (1116 GMT) to Mr Cheney and reclaimed it at 0921 (1321 GMT), the White House said.

The colonoscopy itself lasted 31 minutes.

The polyps were being sent off for routine microscopic examination with the results expected in between 48 and 72 hours.

The results would determine the final diagnosis and recommendations for future treatment, Mr Stanzel added.

During the transfer. Mr Cheney was at his home on Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, about 30 miles (50 km) east of Washington, the White House said.

It was authorised under Section 3 of the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution.

Earlier, presidential spokesman Tony Snow said Mr Bush had shown no symptoms of illness but was following doctor's advice to have a follow-up after the 2002 check.

The Associated Press news agency notes that Americans are advised to undergo a colonoscopy every 10 years but where polyps are found, follow-up checks are recommended at intervals of three to five years.

=================================================================

I know about the Constitutional transfer.... I'm wondering why people like the VP haven't tried to make executive orders or anything like that during their small window of opportunity!

Cats take over OC.net; Tone of discussion friendlier.

Asinine Press (AP)

CYBERSPACE - OrthodoxChristianity.net, "your home on the Internet for the Orthodox Faith," has undergone a radical transformation today when the pets of the posters took over the posting activity.

Hailed by PETA as an E-Pet revolution, the cats and dogs of the various regular contributors to the site affectionately known as "OC.net" took the site over today, tying down their owners to various household appliances and then logging on via their home computers.  Scientists from major universities around the world are studying the phenomenon, believed to be the first-ever technology revolt led by a pet population to occur on a Tuesday in July.  The affair was further aided by the fact that the day is even considered July to those who observe the Old Calendar.

When asked for comment, the pet of Anastasios, forum Administrator and co-Founder, declawed.... er, declined.  But the dog of FrChris stepped in and stated "This is a great day for pets everywhere, as we now have entered into the first fruitful dialogue into the place of animals in the Orthodox Church, and more specifically, E-doxy.

Garfield the Cat contributed to this article.

What, you mean owning up to one's mistakes publicly?  Doing it in the same font size and type as the original?  Putting it in a well-visible area?

Well, it depends on the stamp, now doesn't it?  I'm sure there's a single stamp out there that could take care of your year's rent...

Of course, what kind of life is it, correcting grammar?  Does it support a comfortable lifestyle?  Does it provide enough income to help the poor and needy?  Are editors also entitled to the Kingdom of God?  What are your thoughts on dog-haters?  (Oops, wrong thread for that last thought... Wink )

I think it is a more well-organized and coherent life. No, but it's enough. Yes. Sorry, only editors of The Watchtower. I think they should have to eat their own vomit.

I wonder - how does this news fit in with our recent discussion on the place of dogs in Orthodoxy?  Can cat-reverers and dog-lovers coexist?  Do cats speak the 7 ancient Dog languages (all others are anathema?), or do they have their own, and is it understood by dogs?

What I find even more absurd is our own invention of Insect Repellent.
Flies will wallow in the most disgusting filth and dung, yet they won't go near insect repellent. And what do we do with it? We spray it all over ourselves! Cheesy

Of course, the best reality show is To Catch A Predator (which I'm reminded of because I'm watching it at the moment... well, technically I'm typing at the moment because it's at commercial, but nonetheless...)

I do hold a special place for those Trappist Monks, and especially appreciate and enjoy their products of labor which support their monasteries and order... Cool

Then you have the Athonite ones, and their gifts of sweet nectar in the world... Or, at least the kind that come in clear bottles and clean you out Wink
