?? Pygmalion ??

It's been awhile since I've seen Pygmalion (and its big-screen sister).  But it's the best guess I can venture.

My hub knows a kid who is in his 7th year of school...he got hooked on WOW, and has been not only wasting all his time playing it, but spending all his school money on it.  And this is a guy who wants to be a CPA...NOT someone I would give my business!

I'm staying away from it as Sims is enough of an obsession.  Wink

The answer in this case mirrors the answer in all other cases... look to the Google!  I just typed in "not equal to" or something like that and it popped up in one of the summaries.

Sophia!

As most of you know, I am a software devloper. If I need to learn a new language or new way of doing something, I don't even bother buying software books anymore. All you need to do is Google and you can see hundreds of posted code examples and whole subroutines.

I spent $45 on the New ASP.NET 20.0 Unleashed book about 3 months ago and have never even opened it, I just google what I need to figure out and it's all there.

BTW - anyone want to buy the new ASP.NET 2.0 Unleashed book. Only 20 bucks!

No, sorry, I wasn't clear.  WoW is going just great.  It was here, OC.net that was non-operational for a month. It was last Fall. (or has the horror of the deprivation blanked the time from our consciousness?  Grin )

WoW can be a great game as long as one keeps perspective and has other things going. Having a house, kids and going back to college provides that.

I'd never watched "South Park" before, and don't now, but the episode they did last Fall on WoW was wonderful.  It helped that all the scenes with Blizzard execs had no crude language.  We just howled at "How do you kill that which has no life?"  and "Who made the prophecy?  "Saltzman....in accounting."

Maybe it helps that we're in a mature guild that is there for fun and support, not lewt and raiding madness.  Our guild chat has been on things like cooking, liturature, science and "quotations" games along with the usual.

7th year of college? If so, that person has other distractions or causes besides WoW, which has only been an on-line MMORPG since November 2004.

We've had Sims in the past just on the computer.  Is it an on-line game/system as well?

South Park did an awesome LOTR episode once too, horrifying in that South Park way, but really good.

Oh, I started with TS1, now I play TS2 (you really don't want to get me started, unless you want to be a sim yourself.  Ask Fr Chris!) and I find it mesmerising.  There is a whole online world out there of downloads and enhancements...I have site again myself, actually. I'm not overly happy with the host, it seems slow loading to me, but it's a start.
But the game is on the PC, mostly.  The console game is generally thought of as not worth it, same for DS or whatever other platform they are trying.

I have a spare copy of the base game if anyone is interested.

What I play isnt the same as like sim city, or sim zoo or those.  I have all the expansion packs, and tons of user made downloads.(about 3.5G, though some have more, or less!)  Most of us tell stories with our sims, I am currently working on three diferent hoods, all with their own stories.  I like to build.

TS1 was fun, but TS2 is much better.  Start with the base game, then ther eis an order though you dont have to follow it.  I'd suggest pets, for sure, and seasons..if your pc can handle it.  Uni and Nightlife at the very least, for interesting play options.  Ok, just go get all of it. LOL!!!!!!

here are some houses I had accepted at one of the largest download center sites...the ever awesome MTS2. I have more but I have to get them ready for others to download.  Cruise around the main site and you can get an idea how much there is to this.

Go to

thesims2.ea.com

that will tell you all you need to know.  Wink  well, the basics anyway.

oh here is part of the post the friend who gave me the link wrote, regarding macs:

It sure can be played on a Mac

I personally prefer the graphics of Sims 2 on Windows, but that's because I'm fussy and I want all the pretty bump maps, for some reason the Mac versions don't seem to have it all, even though I have the graphics card to handle it all. I was told by someone at Aspyr while doing some beta stuff that they weren't allowed to change the original coding for the game, so that's probably why I was noticing a huge change from Windows machine to Mac.

Now however, I have the best of both worlds, I have an Intel iMac and I have set up a separate partition running Windows natively by a program called Bootcamp, it's brilliant, I just boot up into Windows if I want to play my Sims games will all the expansions, no dramas.

The actual games run beautifully on the Mac side, no bugs, everything great so don't get me wrong, it is playable and gorgeous, more stable than the Windows side, I'm just fussy and they can't change what I'm missing...I still own every single expansion on Mac too and will get Seasons for it too shortly.

I don't install games on my laptop any more because of the addiction factor.

I have no problem with the addiction.  I don't do anything anyway.  This will at least have me doing SOMETHING, rather than roming the halls.... Wink Wink

I'm doing fine. I'm still trying to pick up the pieces of my life after Ashley didn't win on You're The One That I Want. Sad

And how are you serb?

Is that a TV show? I'm unfamiliar with it...mind explaining it?  I could look it up but its more fun this way.  And a great way to get the post-count up.  haha.   Wink

I'm actually sick.  Kind of sucks.  I have to chant at the school for Holy Week, so gearing up for that.

Just trying to survive brother.  that's it.

What is it that you do Marat?

It is a TV show, like American Idol. They have people competing for a role in Grease on Broadway. The finale was on Sunday night. It was good, but the people I liked didn't win.

Sorry you're sick. That sucks. Even worse when you have to chant. I want to learn how to chant. I can sing OK, but I sound weird chanting.

I work in a call center, which means I listen to people complain all day long. What are you in school for?

I go to Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Boston.  Going for my Masters in Divinity.  Perhaps priesthood in the future...right now i'm just trying to finish my academic stuff.

So yah, being at the school for Holy Week is gong be really stressfull.  Its a lot higher standard than....well just about anywhere in the US.  (New York might be more stressful with the Archbishop)

Chanting takes a lot of work man.  I know that when I came to the school from the Serbian church, EVERYTHING was foreign to me.  It took a LOT of personal effort and A LOT of practice for me to be proficient in chant.  I even had a "chanting" background having sung Liturgy for my father in church my whole life (he's a priest).

Anyway, my best advice to you is to find someone who knows chant well and you're willing to learn from.  And then record EVERYTHING and just keep listening.  The more you listen to it, the more you'll sound like it.

I listen to monks from Mt. Athos, and one time my professor of chant here at the school comented how I sound like a monk from Mt. Athos when I chant.  So there's definately something about what you listen to.

I like our chanter, he has this very cool raspy/graty undertone, not at all unpleasant, very very cool.

I would love to have a raspy voice. Maybe I should start smoking. Hmmm.

Not only does he smoke a ton, but he's got a better voice now than when he was a youngster!!!

Easy - in your Profile, under "Forum Profile Information" you now have a spot to "select country."  I picked Mongolia because that is what I picked when we still had the Member Map.
