And when I control everything, the only people who will be killed for saying or writing anything will be those who say or write:

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Because it would be funny and usually those who say that nonsense, ain't never gonna be the person who suffers a paper cut for someone to get some food, much less lay down their life for someone to say something.

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Will you defend to the death also things I say that you approve of?

That would depend on my mood.

You shouldn't take quotes too seriously and cheer up.

A Bing translation of a wiki article:

Quote
Lars Thunberg

Lars Thunberg, born 1928- 2007, Dr., Assoc. Professor of theology in Uppsala and Århus, writer, poet.

Thunberg has authored three hymns in the 1986 book of hymns: No. 163 built On suffering is God's Church, 192 Now drops the noise as well as 425 Passage dimensions has been filled to the brink.

I'm not sure which hymn I'd like to hear more, "Now drops the noise" or "Passage dimensions has been filled to the brink"  Grin

And today we commemorate the feast of Ivan, Ivan, George, Vasil, and Ivan the (altar-boy) New-Martyrs, who died courageously in the service of God due to suffocation from incense smoke.

"We implore Thee O Lord for the sake of the sufferings of Thy saints, Ivan, Ivan, Ivan, George and Vasil,/ which they endured on Thy behalf,/ show compassion unto us,/ and heal all or infirmities, O Lover of mankind."

Finland's suicide rate is top 10 or top 20 in the world.  Depends on how you look at that information and what you decide to do with it.

Is it the proximity to Russia that accounts for that?

As professionals, they probably don't charge enough to get that high in the ratings.

"The emperor, lord Manuel Comnenus,
upon a melancholy September day,
felt that his end was near. The astrologers
(those who were paid a stipend at the court)
prated of many years still left to him.
While these, however, were discoursing, he —
remembering pious customs of the past —
sends to the monks and gets him from the cells
ecclesiastical habiliments,
and puts them on rejoicing to present
the modest aspect of a priest or monk.

Happy are all they that reverently believe,
and, like the emperor lord Manuel, end
apparelled in their faith decorously."

Speaking of Best Thread title, we should really do a whole "Best of" series for 2013. Or maybe it would be easier to do it like yearbook superlatives. "Most interesting thread", "Most interesting post", "Most helpful post", "Most likely to make you laugh poster", etc.

Best thread title last year: "Why are Roman Catholics Always Trying to Jack our Swag?"

This was the handiwork of JamesR, I remember. Wink

Indeed it was

If I could comment on what you said about having like a Yearbook thing, I think that we ought to have like some sort of montage composed of the best posting moments of some of the well-known, outrageous posters on this site like Orthonorm, Isa, augustine, and maybe yours truly.

The only man capable of a such feat was booted: Shiny.

I'll post it on his behalf if he is game.

I was thinking of a list of categories, and then people would submit their votes for which thread/who best fits the category.

This place has gotten boring without Shiny. I no longer have any urge or need to make outrageous posts and this place lacks the amazing spark that Shiny used to give it. Maybe I'll pull a William and rage quit. Anyhoo, we ought to organize a forum-wide effort or protest to get Shiny un-banned. I'd willingly gamble my the fate of my own account if it meant bringing him back. I propose we form a petition and submit it to one of the site administrators.

I suspect such a move would be as successful as the campaign to have the Irish Hermit unbanned.  Tongue

"Most outrageous post(er)" could definitely be a superlative on our list... James, you have a solid chance at that one, I think. Wink

Shoot, I hate when girls on the Tinder App only include their faces in their pics and not their bodies. How am I supposed to decline the morbidly obese ones?

Speaking of Best Thread title, we should really do a whole "Best of" series for 2013. Or maybe it would be easier to do it like yearbook superlatives. "Most interesting thread", "Most interesting post", "Most helpful post", "Most likely to make you laugh poster", etc.

I don't know if anyone would want to go through many of the old threads/posts? I mean, if someone volunteers, great! Cool  If not, we could at least keep track starting now and do something at the end of this year. Maybe. Hmm...

Hmmm... I guess I was thinking it would be open-ended, no provided options. But you have a point- it would start to get tricky with individual posts, unless it was specific per thread, like "Best of Quotable Quotes". Perhaps yearbook superlatives would have to do while we start the clock for next year.
