How's everyone's holiday's going?
A few weeks ago when shopping with my sister/roommate I noticed her looking at some pearl earrings but wouldn't spend the money on herself for them. When she left, I bought the earrings for her for Christmas. Yesterday she went to the store and was showing me what she bought. She bought the same earrings for herself finally. So now I have to come up with something to replace them in the few days left. I have no idea what to get now. Grrr.

You should have hinted that you were going to "take care of" the problem. Even if she got it, at least you still win!! Can you return the pearls? IF you're gona go with Jewelry go with earings...can't lose with that!

Unless your wife is horribly allergic to direct skin contact with all but the most pure gold that has been mined by virgins wearing white, with all equipment used in the process being pulled by unicorns fed marigold petals (only a slight exageration here...) My wife can or will wear her wedding band, and sometimes a necklace. Earrings are something that I can guarantee will basically stay in the box!

I'm sure she'd love a present like Civ IV or AOE III.... I mean, the whole "two are one flesh" thing, and since we know you would love them, that means she would too! I'm sure she would get hours of enjoyment out of the games... and maybe a few other fellows in the house would as well

While I'm am early by about 4 hours, I want to add to this by marking that it was one year ago today that I started this thread with wondering if the forum would break the 100,000 post mark by New Years, since at that time we were at 99,000 or so. Now look at us, over 141,000 (and if we hadn't had that month off, who knows what we'd be at.) Ebor

And how much of our lives would that goal require to completely waste?

And how much of our lives would that goal require to completely waste? Well, you tell me: factor in how much time you and I have wasted on this thread, then multiply it by 8 or 9 (since you and I seem to have contributed about 1,000 posts to the effort) and you've got how much time you and I will continue to waste here (assuming we take up the same percentage of the posting...)

This Saturday (Dec 30) will be the one-year anniversary of the day when we posted 131 posts in this thread (ahem - 131 posts in one day in one thread - truly a masterful waste of time and e-space)... There were another 9 or 10 posts in the first few hours of the 31st (before 2 or 3am).

I'm listening to disco music tonight while on the board. I was born too late to really know it when it was current music.

I've always been afraid of disco. The lights, the hair, the outfits... *shrivers* Just kidding, though I was a metal head, so disco was kind of anathema to me. I'm just sittin' here playing Age of Empires 2 on my new DS Lite. It's better than I thought it would be. One can only hope that it will pave the way for other strategy games to come over to the consoles and hand helds, like Civilization. I saw an interview where Sid said it wasn't out of the question and they'd explore their options in the coming years... though I guess he'd probably say that even if he had no intention of doing a port.

Call me, Archon.*
2,500 posts, woo hoo! I am now a certifiable net geek! What I don't get is why my name changed color when I was still a couple dozen posts short of 2,500. Ahh well, who cares? Anyone? Didn't think so.
*One of my favorite Married with children moments. Kelly comes in with a book in her hand, and bud asks her how Moby Dick is so far. "Ok" she says, "except one thing". "What's that?" Bud asks. "Call who Ishmael?"
