In English lessons I was always taught to use British English. American English was reviled by the teachers as a barbaric variant of proper, British English. We would get no points if we would use American words/spelling/etc.
Then you should learn Canadian English. We're a more-or-less delightfully chaotic mix of the two. Generally speaking I prefer British spellings (not always). It irked me the other day when I saw a truck (notice it's not a lorry) that advised others to keep "three meters" back. I wondered how to do that on a street with no parking meters  :P.

I prefer American English. I think it sounds less pretentious . I mean in thd mouths of those for whom English isn't their native language.

What are you talking about? American English is closer to the original anyways according to language scholars, and even if it wasn't what is destructive about not having a u in color?

It's not that the English lessons really influenced me. Usually I just played chess in class with a friend.

You're kind of lucky. Your royalty seem to be nice. The last king the former U.K. colonies had, before they became the U.S., was George III - pretty loopy, as far as we know. He was so bad, we had to have a war. If we had a king who wasn't crazy, who knows.

It sometimes gets a little weird that someone can seemingly be so perfect. The most controversial thing that has ever happened during my lifetime was when one of the princes got a divorce.

Indeed. I also think that American literature is far inferior to British literature. Of course, this is a different subject entirely.

Did it work? Don't get me wrong, it was a nice thing to do. I just don't understand what's with the women and flowers. If I am feelling down it doesn't help if someone buys me a beer.

My wife isn't the least bit interested in flowers. I gave up years ago trying to please her with them after hearing time and time again, "What am I supposed to do with these?" Chocolate works better  :D.

I got off of work and because my wife seems a little down I went by to pick her up some flowers.

I love being given a single flower (preferably a white rose, kthx) and taken for a walk out. If the walk is not an option, uninterrupted bathroom time works much better.

Not that I'd turn down chocolate under any circumstances, of course...

I found out that a national newspaper was looking for me in school last friday. They wanted to interview me. I already went home, however. I'm not even kidding.

About what?

Latin.

Cool.  :)

In college, my Latin teacher asked one of us to conjugate the verb "quaquare." The man got a puzzled look on his face, but he did his best: "Quaquo, quaquas, quaquat..." The teacher started to laugh. The student asked why. The teacher said, "There's no such verb. I just wanted to hear you say, 'quack quack.'"

My teacher always told us "semper ubi sub ubi".  Luckily, he never checked.

My Latin teacher had the worst jokes in the world.
