Ah, bi-polar mothers are the best. Especially when they hate your style (jersey and shorts normally) and your facial hair (mah beard, although it is always short) (which she threatens to not let me come in the house because of). Luckily she doesn't have a problem with me as a person though.

After the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 the Scandinavian countries took good care of the Hungarian refugees, and the Hungarians were so grateful for all the help that they worked extra hard and only had short breaks so they could pay the Scandinavians back. Unfortunately it made the other workers look bad, so it had to be explained to them that they had to rest more and relax a bit. The Hungarians were amazed that they were told to just sit around and eat food and drink beer and thought they had gone to heaven. XD

I always knew it was bad...but I never knew the exact numbers: About 30% of Oslo are of non-Norwegian background. Could be 50% by 2030. I think that is absurd.

Like most capital cities. I think it's unfortunate just because it has been too rapid. It has created a class system where there previously was none, with this class divide running mainly along ethnic/religious lines. A positive is that the people raised in a multi-ethnic, multi-religious society will find it far easier to accept Christ without everyone in church looking, speaking, or thinking just like them.

Heck ethnic Scandinavians are fine (My own mother's family has almost as much Danish in her as Norwegian). I just think this quick immigration will do exactly as Kristian said: I think it's unfortunate just because it has been too rapid. I notice most of the "non-EU" immigrants live in the East End, from what I noticed. Granted, the worst living conditions in Norway is still good compared to the rest of the world, but I worry, because it is, as you said, happening so quickly. Not to mention...the ethnicity in both Austlandet and all of Sweden are going to be destroyed alot faster than the West.

I don't think it needs to be ethnic Scandinavians. The problem is that most of these immigrants are very poor and have neither the education nor the language abilities to find decent employment. In small numbers these can be integrated, but en masse it causes division. What you end up with are a poor underclass who feel disenfranchised and on the outside of society, while the rest of society look at them with suspicion. That this 'underclass' is Somali/Pakistani and Muslim isn't important in and of itself, but obviously heightens the sense of "otherness" which helps perpetuate the problem already there. It's not conducive to societal cohesion. Not to mention...the ethnicity in both Austlandet and all of Sweden are going to be destroyed alot faster than the West.
Everyone on the West coast have a little bit of Spanish or Portugese in them. You didn't get your dark hair from the vikings :p

This is the most uncomfortably racist things have gotten around here in a while.
This is something I must point out my fellow Americans. As much garbage we take from Europeans for not be as liberal or open-minded as they, we have them beat when it comes to ethnic and racial discrimination by a long shot. If not systemically, certainly on a person to person basis. Nearly every "real European" I met was a racist or an ethnicist, unless they were extremely liberal, as in full blown socialist / communist. What is "ethnically" American? It only makes sense for some two groups, both equally foolish: KKK (and their weird cousins) Amerindians who want to return to a past that never existed. Most of the rest of us can't even parse that sentence. As problematic as our divisions are here over race and immigration, you ain't heard nothing till you get a European drunk and comfortable enough to let out what they really think.

As I said, I don't believe the ethnicity and religious affiliation of the immigrants in question is of importance. It's a question of being able to successfully integrate large numbers of people in such a short space of time, without ending up with class or other social divisions.

Just like every American is fat, overly patriotic right-wing evangelical. This is the most uncomfortably racist things have gotten around here in a while.
Completely agree. It is racist to say that certain nationalities and certain cultures have historically (say, thousands of years) correlated with certain ethnic groups? That doesn't mean that other cultures, nationalities, "races" etc. are somehow inferior or wrong or that one cannot become, say, Norwegian if one hasn't born into some viking familyline.

The historical elements that led to some of the systematic racism and white privelege that exist in the US today have given us time to think things through on an individual level. Still doesn't explain why 2 Broke Girls is still on TV though. I would consider joining the KKK, because sometimes it seems like it'd be worth spewing vile rhetoric to hear someone unironically call me an Exalted Cyclops or Imperial Wizard. Guess RPGs will have to do for now.

Oh, I know. I don't have a problem with the inclusion of other ethnicity. More the death of the language and culture. From a regional aspect.

You obviously know the answer to that ridiculous question. I speak English. I speak it fluently. I'm not, nor any of my ethnic group, destroying American culture, or the language. Plus, I blame the immigration problem on the GOVERNMENT, not the Immigrants. And I am leaving in June.

Please forgive me, but where did you assume the idea was a "racist"? My fiancee is Hispanic after all. "Culture" is the word Europeans use to mask their xenophobia. Exactly. When "preservation of culture" amounts to attempting to exclude other "cultures" from the country, it is indistinguishable from racism. My Hispanic fiancee disagrees with you. Plus, I never wanted to "exclude" anyone. Stop putting words in my mouth. You are acting like I want to ban immigration or something.

This is the most uncomfortably racist things have gotten around here in a while.
How is it racist? Have you any idea it is not an issue of race, but an issue of culture? I never said, nor will say, any race is inferior. Please forgive me, but where did you assume the idea was a "racist"? My fiancee is hispanic after all. "Culture" is the word Europeans use to mask their xenophobia. Do the Europeans have a bad case of xenophobia? In the day to day, it is staggeringly worse than it is here. And for the last decade certainly we've seen political establishment examples within many European countries to protect their "culture". Celticfan, how do you say Leitkultur in Norwegian?

Do the Europeans have a bad case of xenophobia?
In northern Europe, only if you're Muslim. It's very rare to hear anyone say anything about race. Islamophobia is the big issue. Southern and Eastern Europe are something else.

You'd be treated very well. And everyone would speak English to you as well.

Cause of how insular Northern Europe has been able to remain. I spent enough time around Swedes and Norwegians to know. If you consider Denmark, Germany, etc. "Northern Europe" it ain't just Muslims.

Yeah that is amazing. You're short. Just dress like you do in that one photo and you should be fine. (White) Americans are beloved throughout Europe, if you ain't a total goof. And you ain't. If you were black. Different story.

If you were black. Different story. Hey are there any rich European girls that love white americans? This is something to discriminate about. EDIT: As far as certain groups. I thought their was a particular class of French women that love white American males.
