Well thank you... the accolades of one who comes from the center of the universe, er, I mean, NY (at least that's what they think of it) means a lot to me.
If you think I'm from NY just because I use a Bronx cheer, you're more than 3000 miles off target. I'm actually in Oregon, which is on the opposite coast. (Even so, we Oregonians think we're the center of the universe.) I've never been to NY. So, NYAH!!!

Whew. That takes a load of my mind. Not like your current city is ever an indication of your city of origin, but that's good to hear.
I have a cousin in Portland, and I've been meaning to get out to see him - I hear it's a beautiful part of the country out there!

Oh, making you think you're a chicken isn't the goal of the exercise! ........ Making you think your family is comprised of chickens is much more fun!

ahhh FAFSA...source of ongoing suffering to so many.
but it is the means by which I am still in school, and may still be for a while, so it can't be all that bad.
but, I sympathize.

Yeah, I can appreciate FAFSA once you get over the first-year "filling out fafsa" thingie - after that it's all easy going with Renewals and whatnot. But it's so darned frustrating when you can't find your pin, then it tells you you've tried too many times, then that you have to disable it, then reestablish it....oh shoot me!

And you really, what's the most important information in a FAFSA application? My soc? OK!!! Much like credit card theft, if anything were to happen I'm sure there'd be a way to remedy it, right? SO WHY DO I NEED TO BE LOCKED OUT OF MY OWN ACCOUNT? Oh man. Bishop of Metaxa, help me out here.

Yeah, except for the college baseball season. UO doesn't have a baseball team, so I root for the Oregon State Beavers, instead. Hey, the Beavers just placed their softball team into the College Softball World Series in Oklahoma City for the first time ever, and their baseball team starts NCAA regional tournament play this coming weekend (at home) with the goal of returning to the College Baseball World Series after making the trip to Omaha last year. GO BEAVERS!!!

Is there the kind of blood-rivalry between Duck and Beaver fans over there as what we're used to on this side of the country? I'm used to the rivalry image of OSU-Michigan, Alabama-Auburn, etc....

Here we have the annual Civil War football game between the Ducks and Beavers which arouses a lot of the rivalry spirit of which you speak. Outside of that, it seems that we have a fair number of Duck fans who root for the Beavers and, likewise, a lot of Beaver fans who root for the Ducks--when they're not playing each other. I'm part of this group as a Duck fan. My ideal college football season would have the Ducks going 12-0 and winning the national championship (which they almost did during QB Joey Harrington's senior year) and the Beavers going 10-2, losing only to the Ducks in the Civil War and in the BCS title game.

See, the only reason why I would want Michigan to only lose 1 or 2, and they be all to my Buckeyes, is so that they could choke on the fact that they lost to us, ruining what would have been a perfect season.... otherwise, I hope they go down in flames... (figuratively speaking, folks)

For me, there's a family reason why I thoroughly enjoyed the Ducks Civil War football win over the Beavers last fall (UO 56, OSU 14; yup, a royal arse-kicking). My uncle is an OSU alum, so when I visited him for Christmas last year I enjoyed heckling him about how his Beavers did in the game. They sucked!!! (The Ducks were already bowl eligible, but the Beavers started the game one win away from becoming bowl eligible themselves. Obviously, they didn't qualify for a bowl berth.)

Having been lost to the world of laziness I return yet again...
Firstly, EkhristosAnesti...a belated "you bastard" for the vision tricky thingy
Secondly, I wholeheartedly agree with Zoe for FAFSA commentary. My favorite part is puting a 0 for income and 0 for bank accounts. That always makes the process more enjoyable.
Thirdly. Any NCAA teams out there named after the platipus? (sp?)

platypusNo, I don't think so. The NCAA does have Horned Frogs (Texas Christian), though. This web site, http://www.halcyon.com/marcs/mascot.html , might be a good place to look for other unusual college mascots.

I'd rather marry a duck-billed platypus Than end up like old Oedipus Rex. Ebor

NAH! Not me. I'm getting geared up for the NCAA Division I College Baseball World Series. My state's university baseball team, the Beavers of Oregon State, play Stanford in a best-of-three Super Regional series in Corvallis, OR, this weekend. The winner goes to the CWS in Omaha. GO BEAVERS!!!(NOTE for anyone who cares: OSU and Stanford met in a 3-game regular season Pac-10 series in Corvallis earlier this year. The Beavers swept the Cardinal, outscoring them 16-1 over the three games. Of course, Stanford's ace pitcher just got drafted No. 2 overall in Major League Baseball's free agent draft a few days ago.)

Not a big fan of NCAA baseball. More of a college football and basketball fan. Baseball for college never really did it for me...
But hey, whatever floats your boat!

Yeah, for me it's more of an issue of rooting for my home state team. My Blazers are the laughingstock of the NBA--they couldn't even win the draft lottery--so I need someone local to root for.

Do you even want me to start on the Bulls?? At least they made it to the playoffs...can't bash them for that. How about 'dem Cubs?? Jeez that curse is in full swing right now... That's why its fun living in Chicago. Huge sports town, there's always someone to root for.

I grew up admiring Hall-of-Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg. Greg Maddux should retire after this year is done, IMHO. A true Hall-of-Fame career if there ever was one, but his pitches just don't have the movement they once did when he became the only pitcher to ever win four consecutive Cy Young Awards. (It's great that he will most likely finish his Major League career where he started it: with the Cubs.)

Man, that is good! It actually looks like a cat next to a wooden fence. What's the cat hunting? How in the world did you figure out how to do something that artistic (considering the limitations of the medium)?

It's world cup fever here in Ellas... all 3 games on, in Prime Time... I wasn't really impressed with either Germany or England in their first couple of games - if they had played quality competition (like Arg or Brasil) they way they were playing, they would have gotten smoked.

Oh, and if Chris still reads this thread (please do) - we'll have a discussion about the trip in Constantinople; it was amazing!

Hmm, well, if you want it, then you'll get my running thoughts on Constantinople and Istambul (I'll note why I make a distinction later).
But of course, it's 5:51am here in Cleveland, which means time for me to pack my stuff again, and get ready to drive to Pittsburgh (2 1/2 hours), go to work, then drive to Youngstown (1:15). This is after flying Boston to Cleveland yesterday (Tuesday), and Athens-London-Boston the day before (Monday), after driving 4 hours from the village to Athens the day before that (Sunday). After today, I'm all traveled out!

Take your time my friend. I know how that Athens-London trip can be. Maybe i'll just wait until I get back to school to ask everyone. I'm sure i'll get tons of good stories. Anyone still following the World Cup???
