So I've been really good on not debating with atheists for months now. I considered it to be a complete waste of time. Anyway I was having an argument with someone regarding Obama's use of kensyian economics which devolved into a debate about God (which is really no surprise since not a single atheist can stay on point) said he was an atheist and chirped this quote:
"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions simply because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it." - Siddhartha Gautama
I don't know whether my facepalm hurt more or my insides from laughing so hard. I logged off and read Sirach instead.
Did they not realize who they were quoting or were they one of those atheists with an oriental religions fetish?

Basically, my idea is to contrast how I viewed pop culture when I was growing up compaired to the attitudes I see amoung kids today.
Like how tame Ren and Stimpy is compared to its modern cousins, South Park and co. yet how (hilariously) raunchy it was to me and peers.

So, my blog idea is kind of jumping off from the premiss of this article http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SeinfeldIsUnfunny with the hope that maybe my humble observations will be off value to future historians in a "daily life in Ancient Rome" sort of way.
