I haven't done these puzzles since 8th grade! And it's the last thing I need to be thinking about with a final coming up tonight!

I don't know about word puzzles, those aren't really too bad. But this Sudoku craze!? It takes me a good half hour to finish one of those things!

I received the following forward in my email. It's one of those "we can guess your answer" type tests, but i'm suprised it actually works. I tried to figure out how it works, but I got bored after 2 minutes.
Here it is:
>>This is amazing! >> >>Don't tell me your age; you probably would tell a lie anyway-but the Hershey Man will know! >> DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST! >> >> It takes less than a minute . >> >> Work this out as you read ... >> >> Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it >>out! >> >> This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun. >> >> >> >> 1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that! you >>would >>like to >> >> have chocolate >> >> (more than once but less than 10) >> >> >> >> 2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold) >> >> >> >> 3. Add 5 >> >> >> >> 4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the >>calculator. >> >> >> >> 5. If you have already had your birthday this year add >>1756 .... >> >> If you haven't, add 1755. >> >> >> >> 6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born. >> >> >> >> You should have a three digit number. >> >> >> >> The first digit of this was your original number >> >> (i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each >>week). >> >> >> >> The next two numbers are >> >> YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!) >> >> >> >> >> >> THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2006) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD >>IT AROUND >>WHILE >> >> IT LASTS >>

I hate to be "android" about this, but this is how it works: This is the year 2006 2006= 1756+250 250= 5x50 so 2006=1756+(5x50) (steps 3, 4 and 5) 100=2x50 single digit 'Y' x 100 = 'Y'00 (steps 1, 2 and 4) 2006-(your birth year)= your age (step 6)
So, you are simply multiplying the number of times you eat chocolate by a hundred and adding it your age (2006 minus your birth year).
...End communication.....

PEOPLE!!! How is a thread actually having to DO with something doing better than a thread which is about nothing at all!!!!! This makes no sense... One of the great Paradoxes of our faith... it should be added to the list Peter came up with here: http://www.orthodoxchristianity.net/forum/index.php?topic=8894.msg122299#msg122299

Some other paradoxes to think about, though they have nothing to with our Faith: - Why is it our noses run and our feet smell?
 - Why is it we drive on a parkway and park in a driveway?
- How is it that someone who runs slow can stand fast?

It would have to be bigger than the known universe. If nothing is bigger than God, does this mean that God is smaller than nothing?

What is an oxymoron, a paradox thought up by morons? A combination of incongruous terms. Kinda like: "decaf soy latte" which is listed on the menu in my cafe as a "Why Bother?"

Kinda like what my English teacher told my class during my sophomore year in high school about the word "sophomore". "soph" = wise (as in "sophia") "more" = derivation of "moron", or fool Put these together, and you get an oxymoron: "sophomore" = wise fool.

Your "english teacher" is a living oxymoron who needs some lessons in etymology! The suffix "moron" doesn't mean "fool", it means "child".

I have no doubt this is probably true... I mean, for 3 of my 4 years in HS, as well as 3/4 of undergrad, I used every opportunity I could to make fun of sophomores!

Why is it that many of the "English majors" that I have met - some with University degrees! - are the worst writers and speakers that I know! It seems their only endearing characteristic is the ability to churn out papers with remarkable speed, although with uninspiring quality.

I have long had the impression that he really fabricated his translation just to pick on us sophomores.
He could have just used the adjective "sophomoric": soph·o·mor·ic Pronunciation (sf-môrk, -mr-, -mr-) adj. 1. Of or characteristic of a sophomore. 2. Exhibiting great immaturity and lack of judgment.

Or the colloquial "sophomoron..." which would have been more appropriate than misusing academia to throw an insult...
Real skill lies in using what academia already has at its fingertips (i.e. Psychology, physiology, etc) to insult the sophmores in the class...

Isn't part of the Bronx cheer getting a battery thrown at me? (JK)
If so, I'm honored!

Well thank you... the accolades of one who comes from the center of the universe, er, I mean, NY (at least that's what they think of it) means a lot to me.
