Prayers for my mental health
« on: July 12, 2019, 12:53:47 AM »
I have always had difficulties in the mental health realm. Mostly it is not obviously noticeable to others, I don't think. More struggles within my head, that I often keep to myself - maybe too much.

I strongly think my mental health will never reach the lows of the days when I was a Calvinist and enamored with legalist ideas - those were dark days indeed. Still, it isn't always easy sometimes. Thankfully, I do have a therapist now and hopefully will soon be looking into maybe getting medication. And of course, I have the Orthodox faith, which supplies the best medicine, though I feel I have not been fervent enough in my following of God to fully reap the benefits.

A problem I have is where my mind will sometimes get into a bad thought pattern that is usually theoretical and not related to concrete things in my life, but which is very distressing to me. Sometimes it's connected with religious matters, which can often make it worse. Lately such a thought pattern has "infected" me and I desperately need for God to cure me of it. I have been a slacker in prayer for a very long time, unfortunately, but by God's grace I must repent of that. I need to fervently pray to God that He would keep this bad pattern of thought from creeping into me, because I know it will harm me and also harm the way I think of Him. Even as I have started to pray to Him, I feel His healing and grace begin, and I must remain in that, because I cannot stand for this noxious and bad train of thought to be wreaking havoc on my mental and spiritual health.

Please pray for me if you have the inclination. This darkness in my mind MUST BE DESTROYED and I believe God will give the grace to make that possible. Perhaps my mental health in general will still have its issues, but this specific thought issue I feel strongly must be beaten into submission as soon as possible, since it is directly related to how I relate to God.

Lord, have mercy.
Is any of the above Orthodox?  I have no idea, so there’s that.

May the Lord heal you and shower His Grace upon you.
Conquer evil men by your gentle kindness, and make zealous men wonder at your goodness. Put the lover of legality to shame by your compassion. With the afflicted be afflicted in mind. Love all men, but keep distant from all men.

Lord, have mercy.
Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.
