St. James Antiochian Orthodox Church is a beautiful new building that is set to open by the end of the year. The church was approved for construction five years ago. Hyde Park is in Dutchess County, and is north of the city of Poughkeepsie.

From the article:
Quote
The Rev. Hisham Nimri, pastor of St. James, said he hoped to move into the new church in mid-October — once he acquires a certificate of occupancy from the town Building Department.

Yes, though the population in the area seems more than large enough to support several Orthodox parishes...?

In the city I'm from all the Orthodox Parishes are within a 7 mile radius. No Orthodox presence anywhere else in the city, no reason New York can't have two in the same area.

I was just curious.  I think every area should have 10 orthodox churches!  Minimum!

If only because:

Robinson Krusovsky was shipwrecked on an empty Pacific island. When after a long time a rescue ship came to pick him up, the rescue party found two churches Robinson had built, complete with domes and three-bar crosses on top. ‘Why two?’ they asked. ‘One is the church I go to,’ Robinson explained. ‘The other is the church I don’t go to!’

It was not too long ago that this church was a small mission. Westchester County is huge and could support another dozen of this size church.
