A Musical Setting for the DL of St John Chrysostom in Chinese
« on: September 13, 2018, 04:02:57 PM »
A complete musical setting for St John Chrysostom's divine liturgy, in Chinese, is available here:

Liturgy of the Word

Liturgy of the Eucharist

The author explains his translation and musical approach here.

Mencius said, “Instruction makes use of many techniques. When I do not deign to instruct someone, that too is a form of instruction.”

I would like to hear it.
Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.

I love it!
Christ my God, set my heart on fire with love in You, that in its flame I may love You with all my heart, with all my mind, and with all my soul and with all my strength, and my neighbor as myself, so that by keeping Your commandments I may glorify You the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Amen.

Google translate provides quite a few gems.

"For the wind and rain...and at four o'clock, let us pray to the Lord."

"Anti-aging children, such as the eagle more feather."

"I am in the mud, the Lord is full of pottery."

"Do not thank, the Lord of Germany?"

"Blessed is the righteous humiliated, the kingdom of heaven has been mastered in Peru."

"...the general-level military gods...."

"The deacon bowed to the priest and whispered: 'Jun Zai, please kill.' "

"Let us love each other and be able to concoct:'

"The congregation sang: the Holy Father, the Holy Son, the only sexual, inseparable Holy Trinity."

"...the Father is born and created, and the Father is the same sex...."

"He whispered: 'Jun Zai, please bless this holy cake.' "

"I am waiting for the ancestors who lived in the faith...the sorcerers...who have achieved perfection in the faith."

"The congregation sang: Praise the blasphemy...."

"The deacon referred to the holy shrine with prayer, and whispered: 'Jun Zai, please fill the holy prince.' "
"For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul?" - Mark 8:36 (DRA)

Oh you guys!  I am in stitches here!   ;D

Any links to Google Translate fails in the realm of liturgical texts would be appreciated almost as much as recordings of polyphonic Romanian, Greek, Albanian and Macedonian Orthodox liturgical music.

The text's language style is a strange mixture of several quite different traditions(for example:the so called'new school chinese orthodoxy'——which reject the traditional liturgical language of Chinese Orthodox Church, and promote the use of the vernacular;and the roman catholic) I can not imagine how it could be used in actual liturgical practice.

Yeah the person who made it is an Eastern Catholic and said he didn’t expect anyone to actually use it, it was more a labor of love. And one thing is that, when Catholic and Orthodox terminology diverge, he uses Catholic terms. I imagine it could still be used with some tweaks though.
