Hello Razvanciurescu!

It is not a strange subject.  There are a lot of us looking for spouses.  Since you are in Romania, pray to St. Paraskeve (Petka).  Her relics I believe are located in the cathedral in Iasi.

Truthfully you sound a little selfish. You want a sinless girl. While you yourself are not sinless. Nobody is really. You have set some pretty high standards that nobody can meet. So you are pretty much eliminating just about everyone.
Secondly there are plenty of young people's orthodox gatherings.  You just have to find them and get off the couch.  You will make new freinds and those friends will introduce you to others. Eventually you will find someone.  Its not that difficult.  Just take it easy with the other stuff. No girl is going to want a blind boy.  ;)

You're in the US, so there are definitely a lot of space for Orthodox young people gathering and meeting across different churches...

What about a girl who's not a virgin but who has repented of that past and no longer wants to have pre-martial sex? You'd need to get to know her to find out, I would think.
Christ my God, set my heart on fire with love in You, that in its flame I may love You with all my heart, with all my mind, and with all my soul and with all my strength, and my neighbor as myself, so that by keeping Your commandments I may glorify You the Giver of every good and perfect gift. If you're living in the US and you want to marry a virgin, good luck. They're out there, but it's not common amongst marriage-aged Americans. Still better odds than finding an Orthodox girl though.

If you'd like to get married, you might have to compromise one of those standards. I gave up on finding a girl in the Church, decided to import. I'm dating a devout Protestant girl who I am working on turning into an devout Orthodox girl.

RalphaCam's advice to attend any sort of Orthodox gathering you can find seems wise. I'd also add: lift weights and make sure you dress decently.

No offense but how old are you? My advice would be get an education to support you and your new wife when you find her. Trust me working in a hot factory isnt fun.
And finding your soul mate isnt easy, but even if you find her and shes not a Virgin, dont throw that away, everyone sins my friend. But that doesnt mean to find just anyone, take time.

God bless, good luck

One should never enter into a romantic relationship without considering marriage with the other person. Since are you just a teenager, you should not be seeking for a girlfriend at this moment. Besides, the needs you described are not up to a girlfriend to answer, only a wife.

Take it off your mind and strive to expand your circle of friends of both sexes. Besides, the best romances begin with a good friendship.

Good luck on finding an Orthodox girl, let alone a devout one.

You may have to relax some of your standards like platypus said.

I didn't find my wife in the Church, but she was open to everything from day one. That helped a lot. It's not easy but with God everything is possible.
Let us open our mouths and sing hymns of salvation. Come and fall down in the house of the Lord and say: Pardon our sins, you who hung upon the cross and rose from the dead, and yet are forever in the bosom of the Father.

I prefer demarcate "best friend" and "boyfriend". As I've said this in a few places in this forum, in other cases friendship between women and men wouldn't be possible. But it is.

You know what they say about those ladies. Russian in the streets, Greek in the sheets.

I have no point of comparison and no plans to.

I only have a little Jewish blood
My theory that all Latinos are crypto-Jews shows itself to be true day after day... ¡Shalón, cousin!
Can you elaborate it? Even in a separate topic?
I'm just joking by exaggeration, but since it's nothing detailed, I'll just say it quickly here: a big part of the Portuguese and Spaniards who came to Latin America were New Christians (that is, Jews and rarely Muslims who were converted, often forcibly, to Roman Catholicism) or even actual open Jews. This left some traces such as Brazil having a large region with a Hebrew name (Seridó), some Ladino words (judiar, sefardana, mezura) and adapted phrases, plus some Jewish superstitions (such as swearing on dead relatives). Many other countries had similar influence from Jews and New Christians, some of them having New Christian communities to this day. Papiamento, the most widely spoken language of the ABC Islands (near Venezuela), is a creole largely based on Ladino. The New York Jewish community was founded by Brazilian Jews who were exhiled due to their support of the Dutch West India Company invaders.

Of course while a couple of New Christian traits passed to the general populace, others were only practiced by descendants of actual New Christians, through endogamy and crypto-Judaism, until the religious aspect of their culture faded off, and eventually their peculiar practices too. I claim Jewish ancestry because my grandmother's family did all this weird stuff that would raise Torquemada's eyebrow, plus she has a characteristically Portuguese New Christian surname, "Cunha", which is a cryptic form of "Cohen". My grandma herself only came to fully understand her heritage after she started working for a Jewish woman who explained the origin of each strange custom she recalled.

^^ thank you very much for this, indeed, very interesting info :) if we add Arabic blood in the epoch of Al-Andalus, plus much later migrations of the Levant people to Latin America, it would be mean that indeed if not Jew, they have generally Semitic blood :P

I do not doubt that happiness can result from arranged marriages. I know of more than one, at least anecdotally, where that was true.

I do doubt, however, that the people who seem to suggest it most often should even be involved in arranging the wedding flowers, much less a marriage.

Selling a person.
Dowry is about covering the expenses of a person who was economically dependant on the payer and then became economically dependant of the receiver. It becomes irrelevant in a society with women integrated on the job market, but it's not essentially "selling a person"...

lol, that's quite true! We're party-style Semites. But I think even in Portugal New Christians left a deeper imprint in natives than Arabs, since the few Arabs in the Iberian Peninsula were mostly Arabised (either Berbers or natives).

Excellent point.  Many arranged marriages lasted a lifetime. Comparing both syles of marriage. Based solely on divorce rates. One could surmise the more successful of the two.
Not taking into account relationships that didn't work out pryer to marriage.
It would be interesting to note that the church use to have a separate ceremony for the betrothed less than three decades ago.

It was not outlawed, it was abolished. Before, it was an obligation, and an otherwise fine woman could remain unmarried because her family was too poor to give her enough for someone to take her off their hands. It was also often the only money a woman would see from her family's property, as inheritance laws favoured male children. After the law was reformed to give women equal inheritance, there was no more need for a bride-piece.

Divorce rates would have been low in past generations due to the very strong social stigma attached to divorced women. Divorce was even frowned upon where the wife or children were abused by the husband/father.

As for the betrothal service, it has been routinely conducted at the same time as the wedding service for much longer than 30 years.

That's kind of what I was getting at.

I would assume that your folks could talk pros and cons and discuss the whole endeavor with an honest blush to it. I'm sure others could talk arranged marriages that weren't a good fit.

The people who want to talk arranged marriages in the west, however, tend to lean spiritually and physically authoritarian and have cult mentalities.

Well said. Thank you.

Divorce rates would have been low in past generations due to the very strong social stigma attached to divorced women. Divorce was even frowned upon where the wife or children were abused by the husband/father.

As for the betrothal service, it has been routinely conducted at the same time as the wedding service for much longer than 30 years.

The current divorce rate in the United States is about one third. It has fallen considerably since its peak 40 years ago.
I wonder what the cohabitation rate has done, though.
Is any of the above Orthodox?  I have no clue, so there's that.

Latvia

but Latvia is Lutheran!

It is?

(Cancels plan to buy passport)

yes, it is!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_Latvia

There is an autonomous Orthodox Church.

Estonia is also nominally Protestant, but the most practising religious group is Orthodox.

BTW, probably most of the oc.netters know this famous video "Latvian Orthodox Church"

Depends on who’s suggesting it.  People from societies where this is still common are one thing, and people who haven’t had the practice and want to adopt it are another.  I do not trust the latter with anything of importance.

Sorry for not being clearer. I was talking about Greece where arranged marriages are/were part of the culture. IIRC Tzimis is Greek.

I wonder if arranged marriage and family nuclearism often coexist, it sounds counterintuitive. Most people nowadays believe a nuclear family to be a traditional model, but it's just another Industrial/Victorian innovation mistaken for tradition.

One should never enter into a romantic relationship without considering marriage with the other person.

I believe he is talking about sexual intercourse as pre marital sex is a sin! :-[

Sigh... Let me put another way: romance should come before marriage; marriage must come before sex. Personally, I think that friendship should come before romance.

There is a secret island that has a convent full of beautiful virgin Orthodox women who only take vows to be married to an Orthodox man and have 6+ children.  I can tell you about it...for a price.

And where is such island populated by hamdsone virgin Orthodox men who don't feel vocation for monkhood and that are not extreme egoists?...

It does not exist.  I'm sorry.

:'( So, who will shoot an aple for me? (before the bride leaves the home, in the day of the wedding, the groom has to do it in some way - if he fails, the bride won't leave home and there won't be any wedding).

I would, except I’m on the wrong continent...    :'(

Can the apple be displaced by a basketball?   My aim when playing that game in my youth was legendary, since none of the other kids seemed to understand the notion of a trajectory, whereas I could visualize an arc between my position and the hoop.    ;)

I need to get a basketball hoop for my rear patio...there is room for it, and it would be rather enjoyable.  Not as much fun as locksport, but better exercise.  My only fear is if I have lost my once legendary precision, I might inadvertantly take out a window...   :P

Seriously though, I am praying that you find someone worthy in your community.
