This "politics test" is entertaining.

Fwiw, it said that I was a social (38% permissive) and economic conservative (61% permissive), but fell under the general label of Centrist ("You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness.") Of famous people, I landed on Ronald Reagan's left shoulder, and just below GW Bush (ie. I'm more of a centrist than them, according to the quiz's creator, which I would mildly disagree with). Then again, they have John Kerry as a dead-in-the-middle centrist, so I wouldn't put much stock in their final analysis anyway! The takers of the quiz also slant left, as 220,439 of the people voted for Kerry in the last election, and 115,065ÂÂ  voted for Bush.

Well...... I'm detecting a pattern here:

You are a

Social Conservative
(20% permissive)

and an...

Economic Liberal
(35% permissive)

You are best described as a:

Totalitarian

You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness. loc: (-113, -57)
modscore: (21, 12)
raw: (2516)

Of course, they give you the option of changing the background of the chart to see where you stack up between famous people... so I'm EXTREMELY concerned that I appeared between JPII and Osama... (actually, I'm in JPII's armpit... )

But I am on the border of Republican, which is where I figured I would end up...

Interesting . . .

I got a 63% social liberal and a 30% economic liberal.ÂÂ  What I suspected is true: except for abortion (which I oppose), I have become a Democrat over the last several years. Cool

You probably take your religion seriously. Or, you are a righteous agnostic or atheist. Either way, you know that the main goal of life is showing compassion and doing good to others, by believing in Something that is greater than yourself. Being righteous takes strength and self-sacrifice, but the joy and satisfaction are greater. You might also be spiritual or a little bit mystical. If that is true, it is a good thing to talk with a spiritual director: a pastor, rabbi, monk or other clergy.

You scored higher than 80% on overall

On the Spiritual Quiz:

Pious
You are 90% Religious !
You probably take religion *very* seriously. You are also probably very spiritual, or you have a strong mystical dimension to your personality. Be careful: these gifts can lead to being fanatical or self-absorbed or deluded if you do not guard your gifts with humility and solid spiritual direction. Some of you should seriously consider joining a monastery, a religious community or the clergy. All of us are on the Ladder of Divine Ascent, but some of us --people like you-- know that clearly. As a result, you are in a powerful position --and you have a powerful responsibility-- to help many people find their way.

Heh, I'm also:

Righteous
You are 80% Religious !

This quiz had some more interesting questions than most on-line quizzes, but they are incorrect in their labeling. Historically, and still in Europe, what this quiz calls "economic conservative" is actually liberalism, i.e., capitalism. It is only in modern America that liberal is a synonym for socialist. F.A. Hayek, Lugwig von Mises, Rothbard, and all the other great capitalist economists considered themselves liberals. By definition, liberal means permissive or open. True economic conservatives are protectionists and those who favor collectivized control of production.

I landed square in the middle of JPII's chest

The older I get, the more I am becoming what I was as a teen during the Viet Nam War - I was a young, earnest and idealistic Christian then; now I am a middle-aged, somewhat jaded, post-evangelical, Orthdox Christian (before becoming Orthodox I would have described myself as very jaded)

There sure are a lot of you folks who seem to be classified as Totalitarians.  Now that's scary!

And why does everyone seem to "exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness?"

Unofficial tally thus far:
5 republicans (most landing on Reagan or Bush)
12 totalitarians (most landed on JPII; although one Darth Vader!!)
4 Democrats >
2 socialists >  most of the dems and soc's landed in and around Gorby
1 social moderate
1 centrist
1 Libertarian (landed on Thos. Jefferson)

I'd love to see the results on a conservative evangelical board and compare it with us Orthodox!

Hey, I know that there are at least two of we moderate centrists on this board, TomS and Myself, it's good that there are a couple of us here to be the voice of reason and common sense in a sea of radicalism Wink
