The Church year in catechism
« on: September 24, 2017, 06:11:41 PM »
I'd picked up bits and pieces about the church year (and week and day) from here and by simply attending, but the last two catechism classes have laid out a nice overview which was so incredibly helpful.  I didn't know the tones cycled, and I learned about Eothenas today (well, that they exist).  It was also made clear that we do what we can, but understanding the broader context has a mooring effect.  But had I not be trying to show up as much as possible, not as much would have sunk in.  He did also say that this could be a semester-long course at seminary, so it's really just an overview.  I'm happy for it, though.   :)
Is any of the above Orthodox?  I have no clue, so there's that.

I recall a while back a catechism which was based on the Church calendar ("The Living God" I think it was called).
Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth

Catechism is mostly just showing up as often as possible.
Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.

Once Christ has filled the Cross, it can never be empty again.

I do try, but even so, I can't agree that it should be left there.  And maybe that's just me; I really appreciated the extra explanation, though.  :)

Thanks for this Isa, I believe my parish library has these books. I'll have to grab em when I go on Wednesday.

Modernist thinking and being consists of nothing but uncritical acceptance.
