I am not being shrill at all. I tried pointing out gently with my first error what time of day it was. When I was responded to rudely, I responded in kind. I suggest you reread the posts before taking me to task like a fussy Mary Poppins.

Virtually all my professors of British history from undergraduate and graduate school used the term. The fact that my education in that field is better than yours is not my fault.

I could NOT address you in Middle English. I can read it to a point, but not with accurate pronunciation. I could address you verbally in Henrician English. But that would require audio connection between us. Since I do not even like or respect you, I hardly want to get to know you that well.

Do it.

Wait -- you studied history or linguistics? Maybe "Henrician" is a political term? What does history have to do with your being such a linguistic expert that you can read the earliest extant Castilian manuscript, altho your knowledge of English from the Henrician to the Jacobean period is even far deeper, including of Scottish and Irish of the period, as you told Olivia and me the other day?

I think everybody's purpose right now is just to marvel at the cartoonish blowhard your posts tend to make you seem, apparently regardless of the subforum or hour.

PORTER, grow up. The fact that as an avocation, I enjoy language arts has nothing to do with my degrees. Yes, knowledge of earlier forms of English does help me in my historical studies, but that's as may be.

Please, please, grow up. The fact that you lack any level of sense should not become my problem.

PORTER, and you appear, from your posts, to have an IQ of 70. Your point, aside from the one on top of your head?

I have indeed re-read the posts. Here they are:

For being a historian, you're not very accurate.

To which you replied:

It is 2.30 in the morning! Grow up! My mind is not razor-sharp at this hour. Besides, the minor errors I have made in no way invalidate my argument.

Hecma made a valid observation using civil language. You replied angrily, telling him to "grow up!". Others also used measured, moderate language in their posts, and you continued as before, accusing them of childishness. That's not how grown men should behave.
Am I posting? Or is it Schroedinger's Cat?

And Porter, your existence should be confined to a maximum security prison in permanent solitary confinement. This would keep you from inflicting your lack of intelligence on the other 7 billion residents of Earth.

And obviously you missed the post where I was corrected on the word "assassin", and responded kindly, only to be insulted.

What is more, your posts clearly indicate that you are not a grown anything. So you are singularly unequipped to say how a grown man should behave.

Note the Henrician lack of apostrophes and the uniquely Chaucerian verb form "is has."

I've never heard of "Henrician English," or encountered that word used as an adjective, prior to this silly thread.

For that matter, the history presented of Lutheran liturgics clashes with what I've read in the Oxford Handbook of Christian Worship and the Oxford Guide to the Book of Common Prayer, which essentially state that as English replaced the native tongues of the immigrants, a liturgy derived from the BCP but modified to suit Lutheran preferences was used.

I would also LOL if an LCMS parish combined the Lutheran Service Book of 2006 with services in German.   It would be a bit like an Episcopalian church using the 1979 BCP most of the time, but one Sunday a month, serving a Latin mass using the Tridentine rubrics.

Actually, it would not be like that at all, since the German service used is still Lutheran. And as far as Lutheran services being derived in any sense from the BCP, that is just silly.

The fact that you have never heard of the word "Henrician"just implies a poverty of vocabulary.

Even Muslims and Buddhists will use very conservative registers when translating their sacred texts into Western languages, it seems to be a religiously formalist thing over than merely Christian practice.

This is why IMO services and the Bible should only be translated once in a few centuries or so.

The LCMS church in a city I used to live in did an occasional service in (or maybe just with) German. I think they've stopped in the 10 years since, though.

I have, by the way, EVERY major hymnal and Service Book from EVERY Lutheran Church in the USA, starting with the first English translations in 1899, to the last, in 2006 (ELCA and LCMS). This includes Churches of the German, Swedish, and Norwegian traditions (the latter of which is still used by one small group; the rest went to the Common Service and newer creations after Vatican II). Plus there is an excellent boik by Luther Reed, "The Lutheran Liturgy".

By "first translations in 1899", I spoke inaccurately. "Some of the earliest translations" would be more correct. There may have been some earlier ones, though I am not personally aware of any.

Out of curiosity, how many does that come to?

And what's your definition of major? I don't know how prone to micro-denominations Lutherans are versus, say, Presbyterians.

His own denomination is a micro-denomination, in case that answers your question. And a pretty backward, nasty little one it is. It isn't called "Missouri Synod" by coincidence.

Actually, LCMS is the second largest Lutheran Church in the USA. There are more of us in the USA than all Orthodox combined in the USA.

I believe I have 10. There is an 11th, Wisconsin Synod, that I do not have, but I am not missing much. They are a bunch of Calvinists that decided to be Lutheran for whatever reason. They celebrate in Geneva gowns.

So more heretics?  Cool.
Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.

I've only ever seen one WELS church. I figured they were a Lutheran micro-denomination akin to the Dutch Reformed-influenced Orthodox Presbyterian Church.

Blessed Nazarius practiced the ascetic life. His clothes were tattered. He wore his shoes without removing them for six years.

THE OPINIONS HERE MAY NOT REFLECT THE ACTUAL OR PERCEIVED ORTHODOX CHURCH

Actually, LCMS is the second largest Lutheran Church in the USA.

That's not saying much when there are only two of significance in the USA, and the first comprises almost all Lutherans.

That's still not saying much. Altho with your record of asserting that the Orthodox are many denominations and the LCMS is actually a union with 35 other denominations you like, I really reserve the right to dismiss this unless you can back it up with respectable sources.

I never said that LCMS was the same as 35 different Churches. I said that we are in full Altar Fellowship with 35 Lutheran Churches in the world. An example is the Lutheran Church of Australia.

You've always used this in contrast to the supposed fragmentation of Orthodoxy, so your tendency is obvious and you do need to provide a source.
