Russian Catholic Apostolic Exarchate of Harbin, China
« on: July 07, 2017, 12:17:34 PM »
After Russian Revolution, many Russians people escaped to China via  Trans-Siberian railway to Harbin and Shanghai.

Harbin is closed to Siberia, and connected to Trans-Siberian railway. Therefore, there are lot of Russians, Armenians, Poles and Ukrainians lived in Harbin before 1948-1949 Chinese Communist Revolution.

The other major concentration of Russian population in China were in Shanghai, especially French control part of Shanghai.

After the 1948-1949 Chinese Communist Revolution, most of Russians in China emigrated U.S.A, Canada and Australia. A few number of Russian return to Russia.

Most of Russians in China were Orthodox Christians. However, Vatican created a Russian Greek Catholic Mission in Harbin China. The Marian fathers were responsible for this small Russian Greek Catholic Mission in Harbin China.

O strange Orthodox Church, so poor and weak, with neither the organization nor the culture of the West, staying afloat as if by a miracle in the face of so many trials, tribulations and struggles; a Church of contrasts, both so traditional and so free, so archaic and so alive, so ritualist and so personally involved, a Church where the priceless pearl of the Gospel is assiduously preserved, sometimes under a layer of dust; a Church which in shadows and silence maintains above all the eternal val

Are there still Russian Catholics left in China? The Orthodox Church there was ruined too, but it persists in small communities.

No. Not any more.
Only Latin Rite Catholics in China. The Roman Catholic Church in China has so many problem. Papa Francisco does not have power in RC in China.

There are still some Orthodox Christians left in Beijing, Harbin, Inner Mongolia and  Xijing.

Russian Greek Catholic Missionary works were a big failure for Vatican. Not many Russian diaspora and people in Russian want to join Russian Greek Catholic Church.

Also, for Vatican, Greek Byzantine Catholic Missionary activities in Greece were also a big failure. Not many Greek people want to join Greek Byzantine Catholic Church.

As I recall, the number of Russian Greek Catholics is comparatively small... but still greater than the OCA. So let's be careful about labeling it an abject failure.
“Steel isn't strong, boy, flesh is stronger! That is strength, boy! That is power! What is steel compared to the hand that wields it?  Contemplate this on the tree of woe.” - Elder Thulsa Doom of the Mountain of Power

Mencius said, “Instruction makes use of many techniques. When I do not deign to instruct someone, that too is a form of instruction.”

The interesting thing is SSPX created an Eastern Rite Religious Order called Society of St. John
the Precursor of the Lord in Latvia.
Also, SSPX is affiliated with the Priestly Society of Saint Josaphat, an Eastern Rite Religious Order in Ukraine.

I don't know why the traditional Latin Mass group like SSPX cares about the Byzantine Rite?

There are some 30 Russian Greek Catholic parishes across the world, while OCA has 700.
