Orthodox prophesy?
« on: September 14, 2005, 08:44:49 AM »
On another thread  (http://www.orthodoxchristianity.net/forum/index.php?topic=7136.0), I asked for people's opinions of the chances of a "reunion" of Orthodox and Catholic Churches.

One of the repsonses cited prophesies that are attributed to Elder Paissios  (http://oag.ru/icon/paissios.html).

This raises some interesting questions:

How do most Orthodox regard prophesy?

Is there prophesy in the Orthodox Church?

Is there other Orthodox prophesy that suggests that we are entering a period of severe testing and, perhaps the Last Judgement?

There have been many that prophesies in the Orthodox Church. One I remember is St. Seraphim of Sarov telling the fate of the Russian Royal family and Russia many many years berfore it happened.

This is rubbish and unnatributable to the Holy Elder. See http://www.orthodoxchristianity.net/forum/index.php?topic=7136.msg93594#msg93594

Well, doesn't scripture contain prophesy?

Is there prophesy in the Orthodox Church?
Most certainly. We have the prophesies of the Prophets, the Apostles and Christ.
Some Saints also had/have the gift of "clairvoyance".

Is there other Orthodox prophesy that suggests that we are entering a period of severe testing and, perhaps the Last Judgement?
Yes, we have a great Saint who was much beloved by Christ who prophesied that:
"Little children, it is the last days: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last days." (1 John 2:18)
You don't get much more of an Orthodox source than that.
If you're living a happy life as a Christian, you're doing something wrong.

Maybe Elder Paissios is a closet Jehovah's Witness. :D

Hi arjuna3110

Fascinating stuff! Thanks for sharing it. I had not read this before, but I'll try and take some time later today.  :)

Well said, especially the last response.   Thank you.

I think Ozgeorge's response is a good note to allow this topic to go to rest.

Here you can find a lot of stuff.

Or is this also to be judged as false, since it is unofficial, because they are hosted at geocities, heh ozgeorge?
