In preparation for Lent, the OrthodoxChristianity.net board will be down on March 10th, Clean Monday, in order for us to spend the day devoted to prayer instead of fun board recreation.
It will open promptly on 12am on Tuesday morning.

purple and white - OK this RC thinks it would be a good idea - just as long as the purple is not too dark for ease of visibility

Re: liturgical color here for Great Lent. I say nay because: 1. Technically the EO churches have no set liturgical colors, even though many follow the Latin pattern of purple for the season. 2. Both colors used by EOxy during Great Lent - red and purple - would turn PINK if lightened enough to make them usable as a background here. As we are neither Communist (pinko) nor homosexualist (pink triangle), I think that would be unwise. Maybe the black for Forgiveness Vespers could be lightened to grey? |

Of course, you're right, Patriarch Serge. All that the rubrics say concerning liturgical colors is that bright colors are to be used for Pascha and dark colors for Great Lent. But green is a favorite liturgical color for Pentecost by all Slavic Orthodox (and blue for feasts of the Mother of God and red for the Nativity Fast in parishes that can afford a muliplicity of vestments).

How about instead of making the whole site purple, why don't we change the color of that big 'ol cross* on the title bar. That would be a fairly visible reminder and no need to muck about with the rest of the site. *being a southern man, I am required to use the adjective big 'ol at least once a month. Thanks for bearing with me. |

Some of you are beginning to sound like some of the old fuddie-duddies who are giving our new priest a hard time over some minute changes (even changes for the better, or changes to be in concert with the rubrics) in going in queues to venerate the icons, receive Holy Communion, etc. They had our young matushka in tears Sunday.
