Am usually different from my parents as in my thoughts.
"May the Lord our God remember in His kingdom all Holy Catholic Apostolic Church, which heralds the Word of Truth and fearlessly offers and distributes the Holy Oblation despite human deficiencies and persecutions moved by the powers of this world, in all time and unto the ages of ages."

Anyhow when God was asked he said Eastern Orthodox is true Church and not Catholic Church. So come home and enjoy.

That's funny, I've never been indoctrinated by pretzels.
Mor Ephrem is a nice guy.  Just say sorry and it will all be ok. Say I had things that were inside troubling me but I didn't know how to express appropriately. I will not behave that way again but I am seeking help.

...if you feel Mor really is in spiritual danger, pray the Jesus prayer for him.   :police:

You were indoctrinated to think that way by your parents.

Sometimes, but you do run into people whose parents were not parental.

Your parents introduce you to concepts. If some of those concepts are wrong or incomplete, you learn that later as you learn that what people know is limited.

To me, my parents are/were saints so I do not have much more to add outside of theoretical thoughts.
If you cannot remember everything, instead of everything, I beg you, remember this without fail, that not to share our own wealth with the poor is theft from the poor and deprivation of their means of life; we do not possess our own wealth but theirs.  If we have this attitude, we will certainly offer our money; and by nourishing Christ in poverty here and laying up great profit hereafter, we will be able to attain the good things which are to come. - St. John Chrysostom

Though they have the B-Movie Catechism to their credit. I'm not sure if he's yet used Attack of the Killer Tomatoes to explain Mary Mediatrix yet, but I'm sure he'll find a way sooner or later.

Life would be a lot easier if I wasn't constantly questioning everything and being open minded.
I reject all that I wrote that isn't in accordance with the teachings of the Orthodox Church. Also, my posts reflect my opinions (present or former) and nothing else.

Not necessarily true. While my family is non-religious and so was I for most of my life, I obviously went against that mold. I felt something was missing. I just couldn't pinpoint what it was for ages. My family still thinks the whole religiousy thing is odd, but they're not against it or anything for the most part.

You were indoctrinated to think that way by your parents.

This is natural and right, and it's a symptom of our times that it succeeds so rarely.

I was inculcated by my parents,  I was inoculated by my doctor,  I was intolerated by my little sister, i was indoctrinated by "the man", man... and i was eviscerated by Zaargox the Destroyer while my body parts were masticated by his pet space worm XRYXGAR , but there wasn't much to eat as my body was emaciated from lack of food from the unexpectedly long space travel, as they didn't supply enough space food that encapsulated.

God forbid we try to teach our children anything.

I'm always confused by people who are up in arms that parents "impose" their religion on their children. If you believe it to be true, what else can you honestly do? It certainly doesn't stop the irreligious from imposing any number of values on their own sons and daughters.

Yeah, when parents say, "We don't want to indoctrinate our kids," they mean they prefer that someone else indoctrinate them, e.g. TV, teachers, other kids and other kids' parents, etc.

That's not necessarily true.  Often the offspring goes directly against parental teaching.

Besides, as we grow and mature, we make up our own minds.

You parents introduced you perhaps to religion, morals, fresh veggies...but, when you get older you sometimes reject what you were taught as a child.

Often times, college professors have a greater influence on our thinking, than our parents....as we discount our folks, but, professors are held in high esteem.

Well and there's a line that it might be good to recognize--the one between teaching one's children one's worldview and indoctrinating one's children to not ever question anything one says.  The latter will likely backfire.  The former, while not guaranteeing an outcome one considers favorable, might at least keep the relationship in tact.  In my view, the whole point is equipping them, not programming them.
Is any of the above Orthodox?  I have no clue, so there's that.

Of course at some point everyone draws his own conclusions and makes his own decisions, but surrendering one's parental duty to teach is essentially putting one's children under the tutelage of the surrounding culture, with its empty hedonism, vapid ideology, and anti-human stupidity.

My parents, God save them, took this approach and only by the grace and inscrutable providence of God am I a Christian today after many detours.

If I were indoctrinated by my parents I wouldn't have set foot in an Orthodox Church, or made a single post on this forum, because I'd have assumed you all were a bunch of religious nutballs who were one gust of wind away from molesting someone or forming a cult or something. I mean, all that time spent thinking about religion, devoting your life to ideas and treating them like your immortal soul depends on them, kissing the hands of strange men (not to mention paintings and gold-covered books), taking new names, taking vows of celibacy by the thousands, treating people like gurus, on and on...? Weirdos!

Nominal Spiritist? I love this. European Paganism is sillly nerds LARPing anachronisms and Black Metal. You guys have the real thing with all sorts of weird.

I wish my office had Spiritist management level. I'm fairly convinced that our IT-related problems are caused by malicious spirits and the proper kind of management might do the trick.

We are all indoctrinated by the world.

Jesus told Pilate his Kingdom is not of this world.

The Lord gathers his sheep, I fear I am a goat. Lord have mercy.

My mother and some other parts of the family are Kardecists, it could be more described as magical Christian Positivism than Paganism. It's a characteristically white middle-class watered-down religion, therefore it has a relatively large proportion of Chads and Ashleys. But the "faithful" are mostly nominal, no wonder why their stats range from 2% to 20% of the population.

My father's grandpa was of the Pagan kind at some point, though, and even served as a cambono (a non-priestly function).

Yes, Kardecism started as another kind of Western esotericism back in France, specially Positivist, designed as a scientific method to comprehend paranormal phenomena. Nowadays it only exists relevantly in Brazil, given its solidity among intellectuals, followed by the great popularity of some Kardecist mystics here some decades ago, specially Chico Xavier.
