Actually, tomorrow. But better to be alerted early than miss it.

Our church celebrates it today.

In Slavic traditions it's today. In others it's tomorrow.
Pray for persecuted Christians, especially in Serbian Kosovo and Raška, Egypt and Syria

It's today.  Only liturgy in town is at the Greek parish, so I'm going to go to that.
Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.

Wait, why was there liturgy?  :o It was Thanksgiving so I have an excuse.
This profile is defunct as of 11/8/2017. I created it before Orthodoxy, and have used it after Orthodoxy.

I reject all that I wrote that isn't in accordance with the teachings of the Orthodox Church. Also, my posts reflect my opinions (present or former) and nothing else.

I will likely lurk on this forum under a different name.

Why not liturgy?  I went to one yesterday...on Thanksgiving Day.

The city of St Catharines, Ontario, is not named for the Great Martyr, but rather
Quote
The city is named after Catharine Hamilton, wife of Robert Hamilton, an influential merchant of Queenston and a landowner with mills on Twelve Mile Creek; the growing community, then known as The Twelve or Shipman's Corners, was renamed in her honour after her death in 1796.
(source)

Whether or not she was a saint, I'll leave in God's hands.

However, at least two churches in the city are named for the Saint: St Katherine (Greek Orthodox) and the Cathedral of St Catherine of Alexandria (RC).

And yes, all the varieties in spelling creates a never-ending problem.

The Great Martyr is also the patron of the first Orthodox college in the US: http://www.skcca.edu/
