Today is a horrible day for me. Our parish lost a beloved member of our community so suddenly and unexpectedly. He was the head chanter Kiriakos.
He was one of the best greek byzantine chanters in north america. He was trained by monastics for years and could chant any piece of byzantine music by looking at the notation. Our church started off in a little 20 by 15 ft parish and he left the big city church downtown (almost a cathedral) to serve at our tiny parish. And he didn't leave when we moved our church into a big warehouse. We just finished the interior of our church and it looks amazing. And now he won't live to keep on enjoying it.
Please pray for his soul, his family, and us his friends who hadn't had the time to say goodbye properly.
Surely he will be rewarded for his selfless dedication and love for our parish. He was a chanter who walked the walk and talked the talk...his life was a reflection of his chanting and service to the church.
May his memory be eternal,
