Please pray 'for temperate weather' for New Orleans as well the the entire Gulf Coast. With the city being an average of 6' below sea level facing sustained winds of 175 mph (gusts being higher) and a 12'-20' tidal surge, they need all of our help. When I lived there, this was the storm they all feared. A mandatory evacuation has been ordered, and there is no quick way out of the city. An estimated 100,000 people who have no means of leaving the city will be brought to the Superdome, which hopefully will provide them shelter. Things are expectetd to be so bad that those not evacuating (hospital workers, law enforcement,and the media) are being told to get to the third floor of buildings...  Of interest is that New Orleans has the oldest continuous Greek parish in the US, and the Ecumenical Patriarch was planning on going there this January...we'll see what happens, I guess. CNN's saying that the worst case senario is NO under 15 feet of water (and it would take 4 months to pump all that water out).

Well, I think our prayers have helped, as the storm weakened before it made landfall, and where Katrina did strike it was in a less densely populated area than New Orleans (still, unlucky for those in its brunt, but in the Lord's mercy less people were harmed).
